... that it took several minutes for my last post to be modded troll. Just goes to show Mac OS is dead. That's what happens when a dead OS like BSD is used as the base.
It's just a local root exploit, with patches available, and no known exploit in the wild. I'd say if this were Linux then we wouldn't see it on the front page of Slashdot. It's not as if Windows and Solaris are the only ones with security holes.
The two links given make it look like Solaris is inundated with root exploits. One is from a 1994 release of SunOS 4, the other is from nearly seven years ago.
Exactly. The reason why it seems like a big deal to have a local root exploit on Linux/BSD/Solaris is because they're usually so reliable. Compare that to flaws in DCOM in Windows for example. The Windows flaws are much more serious.
I've been using Solaris (and before that SunOS) for years on my company's servers and there's never once been a root exploit. As with any OS, you just have to keep it patched.
I've learned this trick works well with both annoying ex-girlfriends and customers...
At the end of a long conversation walk into your bathroom and flush the toilet. Keep the phone about five feet away from the toilet so that it's audible but not blatant. Do that everytime you end your conversation with the person.
Go ahead, mod me -1 Troll, but isn't it just abusing people's trust to trick them with excuses like "I'm stuck in traffic" when you really have no good excuse.

NOT!!!!!
If BSD is dead then Mac OS X must be dead too :-)

Mac OS sucks. Long live Windows.

No, you can't get karma for funny comments. It should probably be described as a troll.

... just use FreeBSD instead.
... oh wait that's the article.
I got my wish :-)

Eventually they stop calling.
