"I see that you are converting from signed to unsigned. Would you like for me to show you what that will affect and how you will have to change your code? Do ya? Huh? Do ya, do ya? Come on! Let me help."
Very common technique. Surely you have head of the "award winners" police scams. Where those with outstanding warrants are sent prize vouchers and they get to come to a certain location to claim them. One such event had television coverage where the "winners" were interviewed. They were taken 10 at a time into another room to be given their prizes.
Those prizes consisted of handcuffs and getting read some rights before leaving out the back for jail time.
Do the "white-hat" car jackers open up the car, get the registration, move it to a safe place, and then contact you about your easily defeatable car locks?:)
I got the fun little error message on page 2 of "Cannot Connect to MySQL". In addition to the database server picture with the caption:
"All your database are belong to us."
Error pages are fun.
we can nail down where a fiber is cut by measuring where the refractivity of the cut takes place
Is this the same sort of thing as using the impedance change for a cable to determine the length (or length to the break) with traditional coax and TP networking? Never heard of a similar technique in fiber, but then again I haven't had much experience with fiber.
Dreamcast is currently the best gaming system. Where else can you get near PS2 performance for $150 ($99 for system and a bunch of games from half.com). I love the analog buttons on the bottom, they are great for proportional gas and brake.
They actually have more coverage than just government protection:
"The Secret Service was established as a law enforcement agency in 1865. While most people associate the Secret Service with Presidential protection, our original mandate was to investigate the counterfeiting of U.S. currency--which we still do. Today our primary investigative mission is to safeguard the payment and financial systems of the United States. This has been historically accomplished through the enforcement of the counterfeiting statutes to preserve the integrity of United States currency, coin and financial obligations. Since 1984, our investigative responsibilities have expanded to include crimes that involve financial institution fraud, computer and telecommunications fraud, false identification documents, access device fraud, advance fee fraud, electronic funds transfers, and money laundering as it relates to our core violations."

That's funny AC. I find that there are a bunch of jobs doing useful (read non-porn) work in the current Internet world. Business still need to be intergrated with enterprise solutions and are still willing to pay for it. Perhaps your skills and/or marketing are what needs work?
Besides, the person posting the requires was talking about multimedia. If you thing the need for multimedia is going to reduce in the future than you are living on mars. As we are more able to Tivo our viewing in a pay-per-view type of ordering, the demand for content will be greater than it is currently.
Take a look at Animation Master's Site This is a very good low priced animation package that rivals the big boys. It was used to create Alien Song and the unforgettable animations by our own Rob Malda
It is a good example of what your average Joe can come up with.
That will work. I'm sure that the only thing that has kept WinCE devices from taking off is the crappy hardware to go with the crappy software. NCR has a history of making the crappy hardware. Soulds like a good match to me.
They wanted to wait until the patent was almost expired to allow the companies to grow as large as possible. Kinda like fattening up the pig, before you kill it.
I wonder how these decisions get made...
Meeting Starts.
"Who brought the pot?"
"Here."
Multiple joint lit...
"Wheee, this is GOOD stuff."
"OK, onto business... Our revenues are down. We need a new income stream..."
"Dude, what's.....that?"
"Oh, i'm just playing Solitare on my Palm."
"They made millions with those little computers, man."
"Yeah, it would be cool if we made then."
"Maybe we did, man.... Maybe we did. Hey look, I can see through my hand, man. Way cool."
Let me see. Some Internet coompanies are having a bad time as it is. Let's drive that stake into their heart.
Most of my purchases are cheaper because the shipping is slightly under the tax. If I had to pay tax AND shipping, welcome back brick and mortar. I purchase specialized stuff (computer and hobby) locally if I don't take too much of a hit. This would only encourage my migration back to "real" stores.
So. Every time I see the icon I think back to the Pilot 1000 that I used to use. It is a good warm feeling. The same one I get when thinking of the many hours I spent hacking assembly code on my Apple II+...
I thought that MS Visual C++ would use Clippit:
"I see that you are converting from signed to unsigned. Would you like for me to show you what that will affect and how you will have to change your code? Do ya? Huh? Do ya, do ya? Come on! Let me help."
They don't need a lobotomy, just a requirement to watch evening news every day for a year. That should lower your IQ under 100.

I'm sorry, but the author bio had me chuckling for a few minutes.
He is also the author of H2O: A Biography of Water.
I have to say I'm curious, in the extreme. When is he coming out with "Air: Friend of Foe?" and "Fire: Ouch!".

Pah. Mine is long past 123456...
I thought the world ended for the Mayans LONG ago...
If you must have the counting dates, you can always look forward to 8/9/01. Frankly, I'm looking forward to the weekend.
So you're saying that the school will be suing him too? When will it end!

Seems to fall within their coverage to me.

Learn something new. You rarely regret it.

I agree. And there is little problem with DCMA or the like making it illegal to do so. "You mean it is illegal to remove errors from my CDs?"
Darn. We thought we could get that one past you...
Glad to see I wasn't the old one. "Why do you need to align an LCD.... Oh, dolt!" :)

Umm. What transactions are being handled with the Palm or Handspring?

Others have same/different thought?
We have some clients utilizing a satelite based system and see latencies slightly over a second.
