I remember that some of my female friends would purchase (or recieve a subscription) a Cosmo or similar magazine, and the first thing they would do is go through the magazine and rip every advertisement out (that wasn't printed on the back of content). Then they'd start reading. The magazine was at least a third as thick.
No surprise that this trend easily sneaks it way onto the web. Furthermore with intelligent filters (e.g. adblock) it's a breeze to clean ads from the internet. Sure, those ads might pay for what I'm viewing, but if I can't read my content, I can't read my content. Ads are only so effective for revenue generation. I don't see this trend changing.
Man, what is with people? The smart thing would have been to keep it under wraps and not mention it, since not *EVERYBODY* knows about AdBlock, but they're just giving more publicity to this wonderful tool.
Productivity for me means how quickly I can do a job and just focus on work-related stuff.
For me it's OS X.
I've played with Windows long enough and I suffered from needing to customize it just right and always ending up with a machine that just wasn't stable or fun to use.
I migrated to Linux when I found most of what I needed on it. Linux was a blackhole for time, because it was always neat if you could get it to do stuff that Windows could do (e.g. play DVDs print connect to windows share, etc).
Finally I got a Powerbook a few years back. I have all the fun stuff linux provided me, Gimp, a terminal, etc plus a good selection of apps, and things like Office which let me work with other people who use office. I like it and I've always been able to work between apps pretty easily as a programmer and web developer.
A lot of this is due to a nice clean CONSISTANT interface, and a lot is also due to it not crashing or me wanting to spend hours because I can edit an.rc file to make something look like the computers on star trek;)
This is nice, but I have a Linux box that I'd like to stream music to my AirportExpress, from what I hear it's hard to do since the streams need to be in a proprietary apple format.
Well I personally hated Systems Administration, but I did work at Motorola as a SysAdmin. I was an intern, but a good bulk of their people who did not have CS degrees were certified in various things. So you can get yourself certified.
A bulk of our department was Contractors. So you can either start your own consulting business or join a contracting firm. That will get you in the door to a lot of corporations and a lot of experience. If you are well connected I'd suggest starting your own business.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has blocked traffic to/from napster.com since they have been a major drain on our resources. Furthermore, the UIUC NROTC is launching a full scale attack on the Napster.
I personally don't watch that much TV, but I do happen to have two satellite dishes at home. One is an alphastar (defunct service) and the other is a C/Ku Band dish. It came with the house, but if I were to move and had the money, I would definitely buy another C/KU band dish. It gets several hundred channels, it's 12 years old and the technology is still good. I can also get feeds of FOX TV shows without commercials or anything thanks to the Internet Birdwatches who tell me what to watch.
The only thing is since you are looking for a new device I'd get a digital reciever with your package. The digital recievers have excellent sound and can get hundreds of new digitally encoded channels as well as the old ones. Plus they have cool features. ________________________

I'll tell you what it doesn't sound like son... and why I am no longer welcome on slashdot anymore.
More like shape shift they do.
I mean, Optimus Prime, is an 18 wheeler? where the hell does the trailer go when he's a robot.
And BumbleBee almost the size of a human? I'm sorry, a volkswagen would still be a giant for a friend.
They shape-shift... and then scale and then crop out unnecessary things like trailers.
You didn't pay for the sun :)

I thought terminator seeds were there so that these supposedly risky GM plants would not spread out of control.
