I use personalized google homepage for a while with a bunch of rss feeds. When I could not find a stream with a kind of information I would like in my frontpage, I started writing my own gadgets (http://melekzek.com/google/). What google does provide is a a nice set of functions to fetch a website, and using javascript parse it to form a new html to display inside the gadget. Homepage gadgets can be used in google desktop but not vice versa. Gadgets use html and javascript, you can open them in a text editor, and change to fit to your needs.

IMHO, v7 was the best PS version. Its all downhill after that. Try doing the same thing in v9 and v7. v7 uses less memory, and is a lot more responsive. After using v9 for a while, v7 just flies. I know a lot of people who use v7 for most of their work, and v9 only for some specific things (e.g. more tools support 16 bit, a bunch of new tools such as shadow/hightlight, warp, etc)

  11. what about simple automation tools on GIMP Not Enough for Linux Users? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Although we can argue that scheme based scripts in gimp are "potentially" more powerful than recording actions in PS, for most of the time, simple recording can do the job. Now, I need to open a bunch of files in a given directory, apply a serious of filters, and save. In PS, I can do this in a second. In gimp, I have to write scheme code, debug somehow, which takes far more time than doing this in PS. Not that I do not enjoy writing functional code (i used to be in love with caml), but I do not think that the artistic community will share my love.

They make big news stories about how they used the latest technology and how it is going to revolutionarize the animation blabla. The bottom line is the results are ugly. The simple reason of using motion capture is because motion capture technician is cheaper than a good animator. And they can make large amounts of animation, fast, and did i mentioned cheap. Yes, they used similar techniques in Gollum, but a group of animators edited the motion capture results and added fine scale animation which motion capture cannot capture yet.
