  1. sure... on Space Access '04 Conference Review · · Score: 2, Insightful

Of course, no one can go anywhere or do anything without someone deciding they can't go there until they get a license or permit or something to that effect....

At least things are moving again, even if just a little

  2. ATI on Positive Reviews For Nvidia' GeForce 6800 Ultra · · Score: 1

The hottest debate in the gaming world...

Honestly I have owned both nVidia cards and ATi cards, I am currently using an Ati 9600XT, upgraded from a GeForce 2 Ti, and I'm not that impressed with the ATi cards.

I'm glad nVidia came out with something newer and better and hopefully this new card won't have all that confusion over flip chip versions and whatnot like the 5700 did.

nVidia's driver support is better too. This new card should also be PCX or soon will be.

  3. doesn't have to be all bad...... on RFID for Automobile Tracking · · Score: 1

If they limit it to sending alerts about severe weather and accidents. Lets hope if the gov't decides to go ahead with it they will limit it to that....

  4. proxy? on Record Industry Sues 532 More U.S. File-Sharers · · Score: 2, Interesting

First point: Don't use Kazaa. Get your music from somewhere else like a bittorrent site or something.

A person could always gather up an old machine with two network cards and run all your traffic through it like a proxy server (I think, I'm not an expert) and then when they try to access your machine to check your public shares they wouldn't find anything because they would be scanning the proxy server.

No quoting me on this though, because I'm not an expert on it.

  5. good thing.......i guess on HP Starts Pushing Desktop Linux · · Score: 4, Interesting

As much as I hate HP desktop machines ....... and believe me I HATE HP DESKTOPS........ this sounds like a really good thing. Maybe they decided that windows had a little too much overhead to run on their crapboxes so they switched to something that ran more efficiently. People will not have a problem with mandrake if they sit down and use it a little.

I have always found it funny when people, especially older people like my parents, shy away from non-windows systems because they think it is too hard to use, and then I have to show them how to use IE in windows and how to dial up (yeah, modem) to the internet.

  7. Graphics cieling on Localizing High-End Games for Low-End Machines · · Score: 2, Interesting

Don't forget the article on slashdot the other day that was a rant from a guy who said that games were approaching the graphics cieling in terms of quality. At some point the required PC specs will nearly stop moving upward, then people will catch up . So maybe then in the near future when games can't be much prettier than Doom 3 is supposed to be, the developers will be able to basically stop designing for such things and concentrate on game content. I mean, if you've played or seen the Doom 3 alpha demo (and most of you should have, if not, for shame) How much prettier do gamers demand games to be? I think we are very close to the graphics cieling now....
