  1. argument 3 (cryptographic key) is moot for the US on Hackers Clone E-Passport · · Score: 1

ICAO has cryptographic key support through AA (Active Authentication); but the US and some other countries are not creating their passports with such key support. This has been turned off. Probably Germany is one of these countries not enforcing this AA because else it wouldn't be -that- easy to copy in the first place.

Probably because the PKI would be too difficult to deploy for an entire nation/risks of compromise?

This means; US passports and any passport without AA can (and probably will) be copied.
Why introduce new passports with a rfid chip which isn't even safe while the current system works as good?

Oh, finally someone I can fully agree with with such short words! You got my modpoint for sure; although its destroyed when answering to it ...

I need to add to this; I've quitted my cable subscription as Belgian more than 5years ago. My Internet connection is through the company which means I don't need the artificial limited cablemodem subscription either. This saves me a lot of money; but; the reason I did this is because:
    • At night there is not really "anything good" going on; unless you like to watch Discovery Channel over and over
    • Those nasty DAMN porn commercials on the screen "to call now" to hear/talk with the "sexy" *gross sometimes* lady on the phone.
(Goatse sometimes looks sexy compared to them).
    • Those shows to get more callers by asking them "simple questions" so they call and call their fortune away to a never-answering-line
(Been there; done that; tried it with my ex and we've been nowhere than 90 euro burning in our pockets...)
    • The never ending news flash; not even cultural repeats
    • IF I'd had cable-subscription for the modem; I would be royally screwed because they advertise "watch movies on the Internet" but how many movies can you watch before you go to 19k2 speed-slowband ??

I've found another way to bridge "my need". I need to work at night; I sit with the laptop on my bed or sofa and while I check out some things I can start a movie when I want; I put in the DVD disk and it just works. I've also got a Mediaplayer 35"; which I put all my good DVD's on.

I didn't feel very restricted by then; I cancelled cable; I've got richer. I've bought DVD's; mostly I wait till they are cheap (don't need the extras if they are worth crap); I got poorer; but it was more or less in balance. Now; still; DVD's are being artificially kept high in price and some even low in quality. This balance is going to break more-or-less if Blueray or any other implementation with more restrictive DRM will be adopted worldwide by customers. I am getting even more restricted by law to rip my DVD's to be used to my own Mediaplayer 35" which protects my investment of DVD's. What's up with that? Add to this; some DVD's are LOADED with 5 to 7 commercials before hand you NEED TO SEE over and over (sigh)...

it doesn't only end with limiting the customer in what he can do with it; but also what gets offered....

irl example: I've bought a DVD player (Hoher) at FNAC; local book/electronics/media store here in Antwerpen; it was broken after 7 months. I've never received the invoice by mail, didn't check either especially for the 70 euro; I could use it to test the DVDs of my customers with and I could view movies on it. That player broke; I brought it back; the store is being unfair that I bought it in another affiliate of them (which is total crap; I still know where I buy my stuff not?!?) and they are unable to repair without invoice. short end: Customer f*cked.

This trend; cheaper electronics, cheaper dvd's also has it's own pros and cons. The con is; the customer will always be more screwed instead of the supplier. Combine this with the super-restrictions these media companies are putting on us; putting all customers again in a sandbox to only play with the toys available IN THAT BOX and the future doesn't look very bright; or maybe very blonde? ...

I wonder how legal this is; I've downloaded almost all songs I've bought on 2CD's named "Solid Sounds" ; I burned them again; since some of the Solid Sounds CDs ("music for the new club generation") contains a DRM which doesn't even allow the CD to be seriously played on professional DENON CD equipment (it mostly hangs for +/- 1-2 minutes and then suddenly the CD gets read; in both my Denon 2500 as the new 2600 series). This cd serie is not one of its kind; there are more CD's which have the same problem (they all have an extra "ring (of data?) on the outer side on the CD; which I can identify already if they are going to work or not in my Denon and older car-cd player)

Also I wonder why I, as customer, must (1) buy the CD (2) put all the time in it to find/download those files to be (3) playing them whenever I want without being interrupted by their silly protections ?

As I explained here I am fed-up with all this DRM; and this not because I am technologically challenged but because it also interrupts my listening experience drastically and sure also interrupts my DJ work.

which duty ? to tolerate or to smite DRM ? Because I still think as long there are people freeloading from other(s) resources because it "just can be done freely"; the market will always keep looking for better options to make one sale equal to be getting one product.

Still, too bad when you bought the product it's sometimes haunting you like a ghost; like the Beastie Boys cd crippled my PC into tiny lil shreds of void rendering it useless for +1 week for invoicing/serious use because the CD drive and the network card was affected by their DRM.

It's a tradeoff which the publishers -need to understand-. Don't bother your valued customers with it and for sure don't piss them off with it; because the result is ; like I did ; that I won't ever buy CD's anymore (because I'm really scared of them; now-a-days I need to check a on-line list before its SAFE to even PLAY a cd on your computer).

I used to buy 1-2 cd's / week ; from now on it'll be only vinyl records because there is no shitty DRM; just the needle on the record and instant music ; like it should be. No fuzz, not being scared, no problems afterwards.

Very simple. Next to that they could never put people working under demand of their superiors for such a long time in jail to be ass-pounded anyways; so why should they be afraid even?

If I get the order from my boss; which seems not illegal and I proceed to follow that order, it's nothing more than a responsibility of the one who gave the order and not the ones who executed it.
