"In any case, VA medical coverage is due to me on contract. And believe me when I tell you that I paid dearly for the privilege."
I believe it is my country's duty to provide for my welfare since without my (and yours and "ours" as a collective) support the country wouldn't exist.
"An astute reader may have concluded that I don't count on the continued availability of those benefits by the "tits up" remark."
Actually the way you spoke it left up a lot to the imagination, I took it to mean that unless the government went "tits up" you would be taken care of, since the highly unlikely proposition of the government going "tits up", I took it to be condescending to the parent poster.
" what an ass... Thanks! You don't think it's too big?"
No it's surprising small for the amount of head you have up there...
"The scientific method is different in that a good guess is one that can be *disproven* if something actually testable -- and retestable by anyone -- turns up a result that is inconsistent with the guess."
Hmmm, you know I have tested many things in the Bible that say if you do this, that will happen, and guess what, it does indeed happen the way the Bible says it will... so does that mean I have proven the Bible to be true?
"2000 years ago, if I went around claiming that beliefs in Neptune and Jupiter (the gods, not the planets) were silly, well-respected people would have told me exactly the same thing you just did. Well, how many people now believe these things? None, because they're silly. A couple thousand years from now (hopefully less), people will be saying the same thing about today's mythologies."
Actually 2000 (and more so 3-4000 years ago) you could have gone around talking about God and Judaism and people would have responded the same way.. maybe the reason judaism and christianity have stood the test of time is that there is really something to them and these other "false gods" have dropped to the wayside...
So you complain that others don't have the "grit" to sustain themselves after a layoff but yet your "grit" consists of you sucking off the VA's heathcare program?
There are a lot of people around here wrongly moderating posts trying to make sure they are the only one's with mod points in an effort to disrupt the moderation process, further assisting these efforts they are also meta-moderating correctly moderated posts as unfair thus doubling their efforts.
All they need is a couple hundred or so accounts and the dedication, and soon no-one legit will have mod points (seems to working in relation to me as I haven't had a mod point in about 8 months now...)
" Why can't I protect my kid from your kid? Your kid is playing a harmful game that desensitizes him to killing. He pulls the trigger in the videogame (unlike a movie). Thus he is desensitized faster. Why does my kid have to be murdered by your child?"
Your kid watches TV that desensitizes him to violence everyday, but where is MY re-course when your kid goes and kills my kid (who got his frustrations out online in a game of CS)?
I have an Epson R200, the color cartridges are not 55 each, they are about 15 each (5 total, one black) and this is at best buy.. of course you can buy generic cartridges for much less (i think we pay 30 bucks for all of them at one place we go to online...)
Waht I found frustrating about spellcasters is that if I used them for anything other than offensive spells (like healing wind or other "helpful spells") then they wouldn't level up much if at all...
What's the point of having spell casters if they don't get any exp for helping their party (which is their most basic function)?
If you have to download this plugin and it makes IE just the same as firefox, why not just download firefox?!?
I do this for friends and family out of kindness, I install firefox and then make the start icon the little blue E, so they don't get confused and still click on the same icon to browse the web, they hardly notice the difference and I no longer have to go by weekely to clean off the spyware (as long as i change some of the default behavior, like not allowing website to install software, etc..).
"As far as I know, the idea that Christianity and extraterrestrial life are incompatible is a myth."
I think the biggest inconsistancy with extra-terrestrial life is that God made us in his form, but then Jesus came and died for us so that spiritually we could obtain salvation.
The reason this is significant is because Jesus was the Spirit of God in the body of man, because he died without sin, he was a suitable sacrifice for the rest of mankind.
Now if there are other "humanoids" or intelligent life, then why would God make them also but not give them the chance for eternal salvation.
It's not like Jesus could just appear in their culture and explain everything, and there is no way he could do salvation twice as spritually there is no limit of space or time so to conquer hell once, is to conquer it for all time.
Does that make sense? I understand what I am trying to say, I am just finding it hard to explain without writing a whole book on the subject (oops too late).
This guy makes the same excuses that cheaters in online gaming use, it's not real, it's virtual, everyone is doing it so you should too, etc, etc, etc...
All it boils down to is this guy has no moral ethic about fair play and people playing at their best using what only God($diety) has given them.
Look at the minimum specs for any of the games nowadays (within the last year) and many of them are 800mhz or less, but with a new vid card you can get away with a lot more...
The dealine for 3rd generation Ipods is Sept, 30th 2005 or 2 years after the purchase date, which ever is LATTER, so you don't have to have a failed battery by sept, to get a replacement, just hang on to that submission form for the next year and 1/2 just in case;) (Like I will be doing).
"When you're really good, sometimes the best way to get into the top 3% is to pony up cash for upgrades more frequently.'
I think your mistaken, the only way to get into the top 3% is to practice and have some natural skill, anything else is just marketing hype to get you to buy the latest crap...
At the last lan party I attended/threw, we played some CS with some friends, we had one of the guys there who is one of the top ranked people in CS onthe pro ladders, he was playing on a 850MHz LAPTOP (laptops suck for gaming, low mem, sucky video, etc, etc) I on the other hand was playing on my pimp rig..
Now I consider myself pretty good (check the stats page on my website), and my friends aren't too shabby but this guy was wiping the floor with us, 5 vs him, almost unstoppable.
When we played some Quake3 (which he hardly ever plays) the tables turned and I did some ass kicking myself...
It's about practicing and talent, the rest of that hype (like the new Fatal!ty motherboards) is all BS and marketing.
Well the Geforce 2 I bought around that time still plays most of them with similar frame rates to the PS2/xbox (same video on the xbox btw), but of course I could always pop a new video card in there for an upgrade (about 50-100) and be current again.
"Show me a high-end gaming PC with 11 titles for $1,200. Geez."
I built my computer for 700 (xp 2800+, 1 gig of ram, 200 GB HD, dual layer DVD, geforce6800), at 40 or less per game thats a kick ass rig with 11 titles for 1140 (or less), and they are all games I want.
"One of the reasons LAN parties last a whole day is because it takes forever to get everyone's machines connected and working"
More like it is one big party and everyone is having fun... I used to run a 30-40 person lan party, most people come, plug into the network and are good to go.. only a small percentage of people have problems (5% or less).
"But that sweet gaming rig won't support 4-player wireless control and won't be nearly as portable or as quiet. A four-player portable gaming rig compared to $700 for the xbox 360 still makes it a good deal."
I'd rather be able to play online with multiple people than be stuck with only 4 on a split screen, unless you have a 36"+ the video quality is going to suffer (or you can be like me and have a lan in your house on which to play).
"Constant-upgradability is a downside... it means that to properly compete in multiplayer games, you have to upgrade more often to keep up with the joneses."
Way to flip that one around, more like an upside.. instead of replacing your console every 2 years and having to buy games all over again, I can upgrade a processor here, or a video card there when they get cheap...and all of my old games will still work...
If you are getting owned on your PC online, it's is more likely that you just suck, all the computing power in th eworld isn't going to help you if you don't have M4d Ski||z!!1.
"Screw that. I'd rather spend the money on making my home theatre better. These days, it's quite accessable. "
This is very true, in my experience this is what I did:
I got a year subscription to netflix so instead of the 30-60 a month I used to spend on movies I used that instead to build a home theater, I would wait for the weekly deals at my local electronics store and I'd by some front speakers here (100), next month a center channel there (35 bucks), then the next month some back surround speakers (50 bucks), and also bought the receiver seperatly, 8 months down the line I had a full home theater with some kick ass sound (even though I could have gotten the whole package for cheaper, I got better speakers over all waiting for sales and piecing them out).
Now I queue up the best movies I want to see for the weekend and enjoy the full movie experience on my own time, in my own setting.
"Unfortunately....it is also the same chick there all the time..."
Which helps avoid finding out your date is a bad kisser, or lousy lay, or not getting a 3rd/4th date because you happened to spurt a little too fast this time, etc... (not to mention diseases, oops i just mentioned them).

Why should someone have to move from a country they love when all they are trying to do is improve it?
If you can't stand to listen to other people express their views freely, maybe it is you who should consider moving...
So you complain that others don't have the "grit" to sustain themselves after a layoff but yet your "grit" consists of you sucking off the VA's heathcare program?
what an ass...
whats also interesting to note is the number of total NET new jobs...

Does anyone know if this law would make it illegal to let a minor play these games?
The same way it is illegal to give a minor booze or porn?

"hen humans engineer bacteria, for instance, do we demand obedience to us?"
Actually yes, if they do not behave the way we engineer them to, we kill them and start over (hmm like noah and the flood, S&G etc...).

" I have already been playing."
Really? All of those components can be shipped within a week to my door, then assembled and installed within a day, how long until your Xbox launch?
And in 2 years when i upgrade my system for less than 200, you can go buy a new console for another 700+
