Funny that you would compare Newt to Carter. Carter first got into office on a campaign of racism (that he has since apologized for), had an ineffectual (not that I am implying it was his fault) presidency, and is now one of the greatest, most productive ambassadors the U.S. has. Carter has done nothing but improve over the years, while Newt has done the opposite. Newt went from a rockstar Republican that was going to change Washington to some joker on a book tour. Newt's a smart guy, but he has proven here that he still isn't capable of filtering out his good ideas from his bad ideas. Carter is not somebody I agree with on an ideological level, but I don't understand how you can make such an accusation. He has a better idea of what's going in the world than the great majority of our elected officials.
It is completely incredible to me that you could charge every believer as lacking of a spirit of scientific inquiry. Science would be absolutely impossible without the sort of metaphysical presuppositions that Christianity holds to. I challenge any atheistic/agnostic scientist to justify their use of empiricism without using circular reasoning. This they will not be able to do and in the end will be making a metaphysical commitment to empiricism.
You're a funny one Mark. You have to go with an ad hominem attack there huh?
Blame yourself. I'm just pointing out the logical consequence of your own world view.
The point Mark is that many people are enjoying bashing religious people because of their "arbitrary" beliefs, and yet are unwilling to accept that they themselves believe in a lot of arbitrary concepts and ideas themselves. They've simply accepeted them.
Well that's very ironic then, because in your attempt you've stumbled over your own beliefs and failed to provide an example of what you mean to point out.
The implication of your statement is that you believe you are intrensically "good" and so you act out of that.
Not exactly. If you would only do good because a god or a policeman told you to, then you really aren't a good person but a behaved person. Personally I try to make some attempt to act out of compassion without thought of a god or policeman punishing me if I don't or rewarding me if I do. Does that make me intrinsically good? I don't know about that.
Why are you this way?
That's a very complex question, but basically because I can and do choose to be and because it's good to be good.
Assuming I'm not intrensically "good", why am I not?
I don't know, you tell us? Does it not give you a sense of joy to help a person? Isn't helping it's own reward? Perhaps your brain is malfunctioned and you do not feel empathy. Or perhaps you are just a bit confused and you only think you aren't a good person because you were indoctrinated to think that way.
Why are you better then me?
I think you just have a bit of ignorance blocking your way. Hopefully you aren't really the psychopath your worldview would imply.
This is why you shouldn't take Dawkins so seriously when he talks philosophy: he's an expert zoologist, and a crummy philosopher. Contra Dawkins, saying "God did it" is a direct alternative to saying "it happened all by itself".
That's a strawman mister supposedly-not-a-crummy-philosopher.
I don't think BluRay or HDDVD will really go anywhere.
That's your opinion.
First of all, who is going to rebuy movies once again?
A select few movies I will buy again. But more importantly, I've stopped buying DVD's in anticipation of HD discs. And all future movies I buy will be HD.
Second, where is the consumer push for it?
You aren't going to hear about it on luddite Slashot.
Are people out there complaining that the current DVD is inadequate?
God yes! DVD's look like shit compared to INHD and HBOHD movies. I don't go to the theater anymore.
Finally, and this is the big one, there are much more efficient ways to deliver content to the home now. Most cable companies offer HD ondemand.
I like to own my media. You can't burn that stuff to disc. But what I do do is burn HBOHD movies to DVD using at a good codec at almost 1080 HD. A 2-sided, 2-layer regular DVD would probably be enough for most HD movies.
You have MS and Apple hinting around delivering movies to the home over the internet. Why buy any movie at all now when I can pick any one I might want to watch for a couple dollars or just pay a monthly subscription service?
It would take forever to dl and I would want to burn it to an HD disc anyhow. My HardDrive can't hold all of my movies like it can my music. Until TB drives come out, that simply isn't an good option for collectors like me.
Nope. I don't affiliate. If I had to be pigeonholed into choosing a party, it'd be the Libertarians, but still, they put up crazy nut jobs for candidates.
Ah but the Libertarians are nut jobs. They only seem reasonable on the surface. Once you start to probe deeply, the nutty filling spills forth.
Look up the word Randroid.
Alternatively make a Libertarian explain to you why Global Warming is false.
If you are so willfully ignorant that you cannot even follow the simple instructions to correctly punch the right holes in a ballot, then your vote should not count.
Accepting that, those mistaken votes should also not count towards one particular party.
I completely agree that SNES graphics (and sound) were far superior to the Genesis, but the CPU advantage of the Genesis was also very noticeable in sports and strategy games.
I look forward to the day when real conservatives come back into power in the GOP and these chickenhawk neoconservative cowards are put back at the children's table where they belong.
Hear, hear! All of these corrupt Republicans need to be voted out of office to pave the way for a real party of small government and individual liberty. Conservatives will never be represented as long as people keep voting for these scum bags that preach small government while spending billions of dollars a week "creating democracy". If we are going to throw money in a hole, at least we could waste it on our own people like a liberal would. And they don't even pretend to be a party of personal liberty unless your choice of liberty has a big lobby and doesn't conflict with the bible beaters.
Thirdly, the history of the Republic has been one of steadily expanding franchise. That is, as you reel back the decades and centuries, fewer and fewer people have been allowed to vote. If the country is in shambles now and it wasn't then, and this has anything at all to do with who votes, then it must be that widening the franchise -- making it easier for more people to vote -- is what has led to trouble.
Or it could be caused by global warming, or the decline of pirates.

In terms of reliability, Honda is number two after Toyota according to statistics taken from car owners.
Do you know a better, objective measure of quality than your car not breaking down?
True, but it will still add a delay to the game purchase.
In NWN2 you can have arbitrarily large parties.

I'm running around with 10 when I'm supposed to have 4.
Unfortunately though, the party member AI is rather poor ATM.
Science works.

We all believe that you frequently have bestial-homoerotic dreams of sexual escapades with deer-man furries.
Since we are in the majority, it's up to you to prove that you don't.
As irrational as my desire for federally funded stem cell research and a cure for diabetes.
And similarly, I don't believe that saplings grow into trees.
That's a strawman mister supposedly-not-a-crummy-philosopher.
What is an answer worth if it is baseless?
To people who seek the Truth, it is worth nothing.
So you wouldn't be good to people unless either your God or state tells you to?
That says much more about you than anything else.
And you can't say Santa doesn't exist either.
That's some good logic!
In that respect he is much like Jesus.
Nice guy, rotten followers.

The PrePub Archive (xxx.lanl.gov) have become a standard (a non-Peer reviewed standard) in physics.
...
You could say that with a real journal you pay for the higher standard: good peer review, an editor,
There is a point to your No True Scotsman spiel. And I do get it. Hitler wasn't a True_Christian and Cato isn't a True_Libertarian organization.
I could make a similar defense of republicanism and how the sell out Republicans care nothing of the Republic and aren't True_Republicans.
But we were talking about the party. And I fear the Libertarian party as much as I fear every other, probably more so as they are idealists.
And he moved to a much better show on cable called "Real Time with Bill Maher" where he isn't censored in the least.
Let them censor as much as they want, and when they are left with nothing we will have everything.
Ah but the Libertarians are nut jobs. They only seem reasonable on the surface. Once you start to probe deeply, the nutty filling spills forth.

3 of my propositions were to remove obsolete law.
Many of my local officials do a damn fine job and some have terrible challengers.
Idiotic thinking like yours is one reason why US democracy sucks.
If you are so willfully ignorant that you cannot even follow the simple instructions to correctly punch the right holes in a ballot, then your vote should not count.

I had and loved both systems.

Stay on topic please, we are talking about comedy.

Correlation does not necessarily imply causation.
