I graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1986. Based on my experiences in statics, dynamics, differential equations, multivariate calculus, electric circuit theory, etc etc classes, I can't imagine how a laptop would have helped take notes in those classes. It was quite a challenge just following the derivations that spanned four blackboards.

I can see how a laptop might work in a liberal arts or computer science class, but not in engineering.

However, even back then I used my Tandy Color Computer to type up papers, lab reports, etc.

A building HVAC system designed by mechanical engineers can combine air-handlers (or water systems) with control systems from various vendors and can be as complex or simple as desired by the client. I was doing this stuff 15 years ago.

    • decrease time = decreased quality and decreased cost

I would say you were definitely getting LOTS of slippage at the rear wheels. Normally, that car would not have much weight on the back wheels, so unless you had a big wing or lots of weights in the bed, there had to be lots of slippage between the rubber and the road.

Also, any El Camino has the aerodynamics of a barn door. You would have to do some major aero work to get a decent reduction in pressure drag.

For comparison, the 2006 Z06 Corvette puts out 505 HP and can just get to 195 or so. The 2006 911 Turbo S has 444 HP, a good proportion of weight on the back wheels, and can do about 190 MPH.

I'm not saying 190 is impossible in an El Camino, but along with developing serious power you'd have to deal with traction issues and aerodynamic drag.

For example, my local cable provider (Cablevision) specifically says that during a power outage, their VOIP offering will not work. Such is not the case with Verizon POTS service. You can get a dialtone even during a blackout.
