On October 19th, I put into production a slightly hacked version of Apache 1.36. Previously those 50,000 domains were hosted on Netscape-Commerce. Perhaps this upgrade has something to do with the 1% jump in usage. FYI, I work for the #4 web host.
The most startling thing in the marketing stuff was that the Revo has a significantly smaller display than the 5mx. I swear by my mx, especially the 640x240 display. The 5mx has 16MB of ram. 8MB is just too small, I bet they also canned the CF port, which was really one of the best features of the 5. I would bet that the keyboard in nicer, but my keys are already a lot softer than stock, so I have less key-resistance-misspellings.
For only $50 more, buy the mx, it has twice as much ram, a bigger display, a backlight, a compact flash port, and runs off of batteries that any snack stand or convenience store, sells -- good luck finding a place to charge your batteries when they just reach critical and you've gotta run!
Cell Had a booth at the LW expo in San Jose. They have the P2, which looks like an HDA minus the platters, a pentium, and 486 boxen. The P166 is supposed to be something like $999. I was asking because of a mobile MP3 player. They were selling Happing Hacking keyboards as well.
As a person who has worked for a web hosting company since the beginning of such services, I can say that there are a number of issues with what this person asks.
First, webhosts have been fighting for years to acheive common carrier status. This means that you are viewed as a telco, not being liable or responsible for content which you serve. If the ISP were to introduce a service whereby the adult content was contained to a separate IP address, the ISP would lose common carrier status. This is due to the differentiation of content.
Once you begin classifying content, you are in the biggest crap shoot there is; being a publisher.
I presume that this person is referring to Best, another Verio property. This person is also referring to a ~userid account, which means that they don't have a domain name. Best uses IP based virtual hosting, not named based, thus if he wants to be unblocked he has to spring for a domain name. There is no guarantee that he will be unblocked because the indiscriminate nature by which blocking software works (IP address or netmask/subnet).
The bottom line is that you can't expect an ISP to jeopardize their common carrier status because a single customer is unhappy.
To be honest my first impression of the Photon interface lead me to believe that they were making a lean X clone. The desktop pane manager is a direct pull from X. The 'task' bar is a direct copy of the Win98 (yuck) task bar. I didn't see the word Amiga anywhere on the page.
I remember seeing the Amiga when it came out, I was just a child, but I remember it well. This interface doesn't have the right to be called Amiga.
The Amiga is defined by new ideas, new hardware, and innovative-yet-powerful ways of tying it all together. You cannot 'bitch' the Amiga for some easy Slashdot press, people will see right through it!
The company I work for used Enhydra to deploy a WWW e-commerce solution, when it was Lutris Business Server. The problems we have had were based around Java (Sun JDK). The consensus is that Java 2.0 is required if any stability is required. I wrote the database layer we use, on top of Jconnect from Sybase. I also spent a lot of time babysitting the system. Since the Java 2.0 upgrade it seems to be very solid and the performance acceptable. As far as the architecture of Enhydra/LBS goes, I thought it to be fairly good. The major issues I had were the lack of a good procedural database API library and a good email library. The implementation of an email sender uses command line Sendmail rather than a Java based SMTP client. The server Java stuff isn't a blazing whack of speed, but it's decent. After having used server side Java, my opinions have greatly changed. I personally think you're better off using Perl, especially if you use mod_perl. YMMV
I am one of the people out in the real world who chose not to go down the academic path. In this world too many believe that we need degrees or doctorates to achieve something.
You asked what his thesis was? The Linux Kernel, a true thesis.
I just couldn't resist the pun!

They can't, the A2000 is already a compute they made! :)

They use racks of FreeBSD frontends to Sun e4500
machines.

That's my $.02.

Debbi does chess?
Debbi does deep blue?
Debbi does Kasparov?
Hehe, it had to be said.
But I don't see any option marked 'leet :)
Doh! I thought they'd just do the old (amp)lt; thing!
That would be the (lt)LAYER(gt) tag.
It's probably because they're using tags
for the ad, Netscape is notoriously crappy for
it's render speed of funky things like layers and
CSS.

Gee if it was only so easy to find a GF, logging on and tossing out your salary as a flirtation. I hope the best to anyone who /.fxt it.
