  1. Prophecy on Joel On Microsoft's API Mistakes · · Score: 0, Troll

My prophecy is that HTML and HTTP will be completely deprecated within the next 4 years, and will be replaced by an open standard, probably backed heavily by Microsoft, allowing more power and flexibility to developers. Something like that may being me back to web-development...

  2. Re:Selling points on Sony To Ship Enhanced PSX Console/DVR Combo · · Score: 2, Interesting

The problem with that is that the current "marketing" seems to be targeting normal users... or that's the way the articles are making it seem.

  3. Selling points on Sony To Ship Enhanced PSX Console/DVR Combo · · Score: 5, Insightful

One of the major selling points of the original PS2 was that DVD players were still fairly expensive, but gaining popularity. For the price of a nice DVD player, you could get that and much more. I don't see that happening with the PSX, but only time will tell.

  5. Nice to see on Ars Technica Interviews Scott Collins · · Score: 5, Insightful

It's really nice to see this sort of passion, and such an ambitious goal for an F/OSS project.

Just because they're making one or two popular interfaces more user-friendly doesn't mean that you're out of luck. Given the freedom you have on Linux, you can switch window managers or even hack up the code for your favorite one. Just because some people want it usable and you don't doesn't mean you're SOL. Personally, I strongly doubt WindowMaker (my favorite WM) will be getting more user-friendly any time soon, without changing entirely.

  7. Re:Not sure about his premise on Why Learning Assembly Language Is Still Good · · Score: 1

I don't think the point of the article was that assembly neccesarily be used. I think the point was more that knowing assembly and how computers work at a lower level will help you develop better code.

  8. This is NOT Server-side on OpenGL in PHP · · Score: 5, Informative

Just from reading a few comments, I see people still believe PHP is only server-side. This is all client-side. No server is neccesary. This is just like php-gtk, and the old php_opengl implimentation.

You of all people should know I already have a semi-working (though in PHP... a _tad_ slow) version of DeDRMS with nice phpTunes integration :)

You won't need to soon... once we get searching and all working again, you'll be given the option to download an already made DeDRMS key file.

When the songs are bought, you're handed both the encryption key for the file, and your "account key" ... those can still be used with PlayFair or DeDRMS, given that you know how to create the key files properly.

damn... they break it 4 days after I get purchasing working in phpTunes...

  14. Letters to Apple on Free iTunes Over a Browser · · Score: 1

I think that anyone interested in this project should send a letter to Apple (email or snail-mail) saying thanks, and spend a few dollars at their store. Perhaps if they see that non-Windows and non-Mac users are interested and willing to pay for music on their service, they'll keep the protocol the same, and even release an official client for it.

  15. Re:Halo on Tracking Gaming Stats With Video Capture Devices · · Score: 1

The OpenHeX project aimed to do things like that and more (bots , tournaments, etc) with XBox Halo. Unfortunately, my XBox is in need of a mod so I can get it back to a working state, so that I can get back to development on it :P

Although it may be a seperate system, depending on how long ago this intrusion happened, loggers could've been put in place to get passwords for other boxen on the network. Hopefully this didn't happen, but it's possible.
