Why is this so difficult? Don't sell M or A rated games to minors. If they care so much about it, they'll make their own ratings board which will re-rate games according to their backwards-ass standards.
As a Fable owner, I understand it was a disappointment compared to the hype. But, it still was a fun game with above-average graphics.
However, I don't see hype as such a bad thing. Sure, it gets everyone's hopes up and then crushes them like a fat chick in a vat of popcorn. The good thing it does, is encourage innovation. Even if the game itself can't live up to the innovation, the ideas it puts into the gaming industry can be very valuable, even if not realized for several years.
People just need to take hype with a grain of salt, and understand that what they see and hear may not be true. Its a skill that surpasses gaming and makes one a better critical thinker.
Seriously. Gamers more or less already know which one they want to buy
Umm... I'm a gamer and I don't know which one I will buy... For me, it comes down to the quality of launch titles on the 360 to determine if I'm getting one or not. What we've seen so far is just a taste. On top of that, the PS3's release date is much more undetermined than the 360. I don't want to hold off playing incredible-looking games waiting for a console that I could have to wait up to a year longer to get. By that time, I could have the money for both.
That's what sets apart this next generation of consoles from the rest: they perform better than decent PCs. To get a PC to play games like that would be very expensive.
"The restrictions on this have been eased significantly with the Xbox 360, the firm's spokespeople explained, and players will log into PlayOnline in order to play FFXI, not the Live service."
This may or may not be 100% true. The new xbox live service has a free membership, and will allow publishers to charge for playing their games online. This is different from the old xbox live, as you had to pay just to be able to log in. While they might completely circumvent this, my guess is that 360 users will have to use xbox live to be able to log into PlayOnline.
Not would you pay more for FFXI than you would on a PC or other console, it has the same graphics. What a waste! That and everyone else has a few year head start on you...
I guess the only thing to keep in mind is that the game publishers primarily fund game development. If they go broke, budding game houses won't receive the financial support they once used to, possibly reducing the number of new games.
It's just a review of Kabuki Warriors, possibly the worst game ever.
You're right that they could prevent game houses from developing for the xbox, but I challenge you to come up with a good reason why they would do it. The only thing I can think of is to 'kill' the xbox, something which would only garner bad publicity. Why buy the next console from them if they will eventually prevent new games being released for it? I guess its pretty much a longshot argument in either direction.
The 'right way' he mentions is through the online subscription service, providing so much value in it that a majority of owners will subscribe. Whether this will happen or not, only time will tell.
AFAIK, those shots didn't come from a PS3 console, they were CG. If they ARE for real, more power to them. I'm withholding judgement until the console itself produces them.
This is true, but it is not Microsoft's marketing strategy, which is to become the most common system in people's homes. The way they see it, the more people they can get latched on to X360s, the more games developers will make for the system, pushing it even further into the marketplace. Expect a price significantly lower than the PS3 at launch.
The unveiling was totally anti-climactic yet they showed close-ups of people with their mouths open... Any gamer worth their weight in salt knows the only thing that matters are the games...
Commenting on the ease that game pirates can mod the Xbox, the execs agreed that "with the Xbox, it was too easy [to mod]. In the next generation, we want t o figure it out so even if they figure it out, it won't make economic sense."
Umm, I'm not really sure... I just remember playing a demo that came with a game that was an omaha beach-like level. I never beat conker's on N64, but I don't remember playing that level.

Aren't violent / sexual games already restricted from being sold to minors? That's why we have the ESRB...

Game houses reaching a consensus? http://www.powerplayinfo.com/">HA!

Look at these screenshots!
...someone develops a program which manages all the game management programs.
The #1 reason people mod their xbox is to pirate games. I'v seen one, its like a jukebox with tons of games on it, no CD switching required.

What is this disaster you speak of?

I doubt MS cares
Plus, that was a launch title!
and remember kids, we *love* the XBox classic and will continue to support it wholeheartedly. Just like Windows ME!
Actually, MS has no say in whether the XBox is 'supported' or not... The game and peripheral makers do.

Ruh roh.
The latest MK is pretty similar to VF.

Did you play the demo? It seemed quite a bit different than the N64 version... Very fun too.
