I had no idea the thing would run this poorly with 256MB of memory.
She only needs it for web/word processing, but it often runs slower than my Win98 PII w/96mb of ram.
All this said, I like the machine, and I like the OS. I obviously don't know anything for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised to find there is some sort of malware running on the thing.
Safari has run like crap on my wife's iBook since about a week after she got (CHristmas). It runs like a spyware infected Windows machine, and here desktop is constantly littered with popunders.
Of course, figuring out how to fix it is no fun, because macs "just work" and suggesting otherwise makes one a troll.
I suspect the problems stem from installing Konfabulator and a bunch of widgets (one of which would cause the coputer to hang whenever it was started), but I haven't had the time or motivation to figure it out. I don't shit about administering Mac OS X - I only bought it because I was sick of playing sysadmin for every windows box in my extended family.
I don't doubt your claim, but I've spent plenty of time with my wife's 1.2Ghz/256MB iBook, and while I thinbk it is a badass little laptop, my similarly spec'd PIII has run more responsively under win2k, XP, and now FC3.
The cost of cable, while high, does not adequately cover the cost of cable programming; commercials do that.
Adam Smith must be turning over in his grave right now.
Cable rates are driven by demand, not cost. Commercials are there because viewers accept them,k not because they are needed.
Try watching FOX for an evening sometime. Reagardless of whether the show is a rerun of COPS, a new episode of 24, or the outrageous new special When People Fuck Donkeys!, you will see the same 13min/hr of commercials.
UWB uses time devision, not frequency division. I'm not familiar with the implementations under consideration by the IEEE, but in theory all UWB signals are identical. The encode information by existing or not existing at a specific moment in time.
How does someone who doesn't like math end up as a PhD math student?

I would "uninstall" it, but embarrasingly enough, I don't know how to uninstall programs in O S X.
BTW, it should be pretty obvious from the typos in my original post that I hardly spent 5 minutes writing it.

UWB signals look like noise to frequency tethered devices.
Secondly, since when are small children RF devices?
So you're saying I shouldn't bother reading the Grandparent's post?
The deal calls for TiVo to adapt its software to work on Comcast's existing DVR platform,
Comcast's existing DVR boxen work like any other digital cable box, they pull the program guide info off the wire.
You can't be slashdotted if nobody wants to click on your link.
Look for an open WiFi AP named "linksys."
Yeah, I'll get right on that, Dr. Hose.
Nothing is preventing them from selling an improved iPod shuffle like devide, they just can't make it look exactly like an iPod shuffle.
Well, with Windows, you could use iTunes and Picasa for free.
Of course, then your car wouldn't have GarageBand or iDVD, and really, who doesn't need to author DVDs and create music while driving?
Fucking retard apple slut.
Ha! Especially in Mac articles, right? God knows those barely even get noticed on /., you fucking moron.
As always, your opinion is welcome here, Lehk, but...
What does that have to do with my post?
Thank you very much, kind sir, for both taking the time to read my post and provide me with a helpful hint. It is much appreciated :)
LEDs do color by addition. A black LED pixel is just a pixel which is urned completely off.
LEDs are much more energy efficient, partially for this reason.
First of all, OLED's use far less power than LCDs. THe technology does not need to be "leveraged" to deliver battery life increases.
The article clearly deals with LCD's (PDA screens) and backlit buttons (MP3players)
