    Don't forget biodiesel. With pretty simple processing it's possible to turn waste oil into biodiesel. It's a great way to recycle, is better for your engine and has less emissions.

    Why couldn't apple the computer company buy apple the record company and put this to rest forever. They have several billion in cash and lots of stock to trade.

    Alternatively there is no way in hell "iTunes music lable" would conflict with the apple records trademark. So maybe there is no reason to buy them, you can simply tell to go fuck themselves knowing full well you would win any trademark dispute.

    Look at what happened in the end. IBM is out of the PC business, cheaper alternatives forced them out of that market.

    Same will happen with MS. Cheaper alternatives will force them out of the office and OS market. They will turn into a service company just like IBM.

    That's why it's more important to go after the corporate market then the home market. Once corporate uptake goes up so will uptake in the home.

    Same with linux actually. The fact of the matter is that people will eat whatever you shove down their throat. Once OO and linux gets shoved down their throat at work, they will start eating at home and not before.

    Virtually every programmer helps their company make money by improving efficiency or process. That's not what I am talking about. I am talking about people who program on software for sale.

    Of all the people who write code for a living, what percent makes money bu coding for an application that is for sale to the public?

    My guess is that it's pretty small.

    It's a good thing because laws don't change until they hurt the rich and powerful. If MS gets slapped with a dozen such suits and loses all of them for a half a billion they will have lost 6 billion dollars which will not hurt them at all but.... Never mind.

    I was going to say that if MS was hurt enough they might lobby to change the laws but I just realized they would have to lose hundreds of lawsuits before they even noticed. Bill Gates will look under the cushions of his couch and find enough money to pay this guy off and be on his merry way.

    In the case of patents it doesn't matter. If you are coder with a decent amount of experience then there is a 100% probability that you have violated somebodies patent. It doesn't matter matter if you came up with it independently.

    I said gnome because gnome is the default desktop for every major distribution. SUSE, Red Hat/fedora, debian, ubuntu all default to gnome.

    My beef is that A) You claim that you can't build database applications fast with PHP (which I proved to be wrong) and B) ASP.NET is more productive then PHP (which is a judgement).

    Even if we presume that ASP.NET is more productive then PHP that's setting the bar very low for yourself aren't you. Shouldn't you try to be more productive then webobjects, or ruby on rails, or java studio using JSF, or better yet using oracle toolset?

    I do find your santimony amusing though. You go on bragging about how ASP.NET is better then PHP as if that says something. Is it better then webobjects? Is it better then tapestry? is it better then ruby on rails? Is slapping gui controls in visual studio easier then using Java studio creator?

    ASP.NET is just another freakin web application toolkit. To me it's in the middle to the bottom of the pack. There is nothing special about it, there are many products that are easier to use, create more cross browser applications, cost less, and make more scalable and easier to maintain code.

    I just don't get you guys obsession with such a mediocre tool and programming paradigm.

    Java web start is the obvious choice here. The fact that people are choosing AJAX instead of Java is due to the spectacular failure of SUN to....

    1) Make sure that every desktop gets a new JVM which updates itself automatically.
    2) Make sure that the java web start doesn't look ugly as ass and behaves weirdly.
    3) Present the platform as an alternative to HTML development.

    COrporations are exactly the same. Their impulse is to make money and they can't help but act on it and their lack of empathy makes it easy for them to act in savage and inhumane manner.

    You may have heard of a study done where it was shown that people are willing to deliver deadly amount of shocks to subjects if they can remain anonymous. Humans are like that. When relieved of responsibility and guaranteed anonymity they can be incredibly savage and cruel.

    Corporations were invented to shirk responsiblity and to diffuse responsibility enough to maintain anonymity. Within the context of corporations human beings act in incredibly vile ways. This is why it's so easy to for a corporation to kill hundreds of people just to save 50 cents on a part.

    Not to corporations. Corporations are psychotic entities. If they were human beings they would be rapists, mass murderers, thieves, and all around criminals.

    recently somebody did a study of mass murderers and found out that virtually every single one of them could not perform a simple test that measured impulse control. It seems like inability to control impulses is a necessary trait (although not sufficient) for mass murderers. Corporations also can not control their impulses. They have no concept of delayed gratification or long range planning. They live for the moment and need instant gratification. Corporations also lack empathy just like mass murders.

    I suppose that's all to be expected from soul-less creatures like corporations. When you summon a soul-less immortal being into existance you should brace for the worst right?
