I disagree. To the average user IE and Firefox serve different purposes. IE is designed to deliver ads to the user and to ensure MS lock in while firefox is designed to enhance your online experience.
With the right set of plug ins you can safely browse the web without subjecting yourself to ads using firefox. You will never be allowed to do that with IE. The purpose IE is to sell advertising to you and to redirect you to MSN when you make typos.
Whatever you do don't clone the finder. Not that I think anybody is actually considering cloning the mac gui but if you take a lot of acid and try to do so please don't clone the finder.
Sun kissed and made up with MS a while back. They also jointly funded the SCO lawsuit by buying linux licenses from SCO. They are quite close buddies now.

In my experience it's the exact opposite. Support from the big guys like MS, oracle, veritas, IBM etc really really sucks. It takes forever to even get them to admit there is a problem. Support from smaller organizations is always top notch because they don't want to lose you as a customer meanwhile oracle would not even notice if you dropped them.

Bingo. If support is important to you then you should go ask customers who have bought support from mysql or oracle or both. I think you will find that as a rule mysql customers are much happier then oracle customers. I know my company was for sure. The err "conservative" release cycle for debian makes it the perfect server. You can let servers sit for two years without and upgrade which is still better then windows in most cases.

Look I love postgres, I really really do but there is a reason why mysql has a bigger share of the database market. Actuall there are several reasons. I won't go into all of them but the fact that you can set up mysql servers that replicate to each other in about 15 minutes is a pretty big one. It doesn't hurt that the replication also includes schema changes either.
Slony is OK, but it can't be used over links that may be interrupted. This rules out any sort of relication over WANs or the internet. It also takes a long time to set up and requires quite a bit of study and effort.
Is is slony more robust? Maybe, it sure seems to have a better understanding of transactions but it's not as easy to use as the mysql replication and does not do as much.
Replication is important to oracle users and that's one area where mysql is a bigger threat then postgres. Clustering is another by the way.
Yes we should stop listening to scientists and start listening to novelists instead. I was especially impressed by how Chrighton was able to demolish all evidence for global warming by calling environmentalism a religion. That sealed it for me.
Just an old DOS/Linux based computer. Weak processor, decent keyboard and screen, no GUI, something like emacs which can do pretty much everything you want to.
It's written in Ocaml which is not a very popular language. It would be a nice project to work on if somebody wanted to learn Ocaml though, you don't see too many projects written in that language.

It's quite clever, they knew their enemy was unable to help themselves and pulled a nice jui jitsu mmove to let them fall flat on their faces.
Lets hope it's 100% with vista. I am really hoping MS gives more then lip service to pirate protection with vista. They already check to see if the S/N are registered with their office apps I hope they do it with windows too.
I suspect they are not stupid enough to prevent people from pirating windows but hope springs eternal.

Buy a PC from Dell and you can run windows or linux on it. But a PC from apple and you can run OSX or windows or linux on it.
