Sounds like they are taking a very sensible approach to computerisation. Because we all know how reliable computers are right.
What is really needed is a computer system with the same concern for its own destruction that a human conductor would have riding on a train when faced with another train coming the other way.
I'm in! Where can I order one? Lazer tag was just too boring. Now I don't even need to risk the hazards of unhealthy fresh air to play paintball to get a pain fix.
From my own observations hiring in the IT industry for 15 years, sadly there are far too few women seeking professional careers in this field. The main arguments of the article are undoubtedly true, but also not the only contributing factors.
My own experience is that a woman of an equivalent level, skills and qualifications as a man in IT will be almost always better and more productive at that particular job. I think, mainly for the reason that they had to overcome a lot more to get there and be generally better to get the same promotional opportunity.
One reason, give to me by a female colleague, why women may not apply or accept a particular IT position, is that it can be intimidating to be the only woman working in an all male department. Imagine, one girl among 10 guys - 10 computer guys - with all the noted social skills, science fiction interests, bodily hygiene and mature attitude we computer guys are noted for. Now what woman wouldn't want to work in that environment?
While I am sure Segways for the mobility impared is a fine application of a great technology, it's worth looking at the ultimate end.
Replacing human walking with Segway 'wheels' will lead to a natural atrophy of the ability to walk. And who needs it any way.
The Segway and machines like it will become ever increasingly integrated into our physique over sucessive generations.
Until

$100,000 today, and in 5 years, or 10? Computers that cost $100,000 in 1975 cost what - $10,000 in 1985 and $2,000 in 1995 and $700 today (but for much much more).
One can but asume (hope) that high cost high tech spacecraft manufacturing of will go this way too.
Makes perfect sense. Who has a good word to say about large telcos or beleives their employees have any clue? So too, who has a good word to say about Mac users or beleive Mac users have any clue? Couldn't be a better fit.
Since programming is an 'art', like all artists, it would be more than reasonable that you get paid nothing, or very little, for at least the first ten years of your chosen career.
If I were a starting programmer, I would try and find some great master to study under, the same way other artists do. My first choice would be Dan Bernstein.
Another way would be to go to India and work there for five years or so. Since that is where the global market value of programming seems to be set. If your expectations are any higher than that, then you are probably pricing yourself out of the market.
On the other hand, most programmers do very, very little, and take a very, very long time to do it, and complain a great deal in the process. If you were to be one of those rare, maybe even mythical, types that can write useful code and a commercially sensible timeframe, well, you should be paid whatever you want.

It's a good costume, but man, you gotta spring the cash for a g-string to go with it. Knowing which way you 'dress' is just too much detail.
The way I read it is the site somehow has something against a 5th grade teacher Why they would want to ship her off is anyones guess.
