My apologies for the confusion. I was just trying to work with the Monte Python theme. That is why I provided the link.
Parrot is not dead. It is at 0.1.1, so it is still in the egg. It may not squawk, but it may compile!
I am just impatient.

I couldn't agree more. If it can't be done from a command line interface, it isn't worth doing! w00t!...or did you mean CIL: Common Intermediate Language?, a CLR, Common Language Runtime.
Ok, I have to admit: CIL is a brilliant concept too.
If only Parrot wasn't pushing up the daisies.
HELLO POLLY PARROT!!!
You're fooling yourself. We're living in a dictatorship: a self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes...
We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week, but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more major...
Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm being repressed!
Be very careful with this one.
If I have a private business, I can arbitrarily decide who I will serve and who I won't?
What if I happen to dislike serving minorities?
You see what a slippery slope this becomes.
MovieLink's Terms and Conditions are great reading!
Movie will be downloaded to your hard drive and cannot be moved. It must be viewed with proprietary windows based software. Once you have started viewing, you have 24hrs until it is deleted without warning. C5: "You may not... display... to any third party"
Oh but best of all: C7: You may not: use the Services or Content for any commercial or illegal purpose;
IMO, the best format is the radio scripts. They are filled with commentary on how things evolved. It really adds to the humour.
A couple things that I remember (it has been many years since I read it):
Adams was maddly working on the script 5 minutes before going on the air. He wrote in another character so he had to pull in the janitor from the hall to read the part!
At the end of one week's episode, he decided to throw our heros out of the airlock in order to add some suspense to the story. The following week he had to come up with a way to rescue them. Everything he thought of was just a lame "...and with one leap, Jack was free". No, he needed something really improbable...
As noted in the article, he WAS able to get sound working by switching to ALSA. However, it stopped working when he rebooted.
So... the issue is NOT that his sound card was not supported but that he was frustrated by difficulties he experienced.
I also had difficulties getting ALSA to work. 10 min on IRC got me the answers I needed thanks to some helpful people in #gentoo.
Sure, it could be easier but he can't claim it did not work.
