    Far too many "CS education classes" are the equivalent of memorizing how to create pivot tables in Excel and memorizing obscure unused corners of C++ libraries.

    Pivot tables? Aren't they a poor substitute for using inner joins in a proper database?

    Regardless of the ages of the prospective employees, the question still stands: Would you rather have people who can write and do math, but have trouble with email, or those who are the opposite?

    Five years? I try to rotate my backups more frequently than that. As far as I can tell, I've never had my own burned discs go bad. Do you have a source for that claim?

    Also, wouldn't entropy affect a hard drive more than optical media? If you can afford three hard drives, you can afford quite a bit of DVD-RWs.

    My laptop has a 320 gigabyte hard drive which is partitioned roughly in half between Windows 7 and Linux.

    With all of the features, each DVD would be 3-4 gigabytes, so 30 would be 90-120 gigabytes. That would be quite a bit of my Linux partition.

    Because I have close to 100 CDs and 30 DVDs. Yeah, I'm old school. Ripping them onto my hard drive would take up too much space.

    It's a tool, just because you cant figure out how to use a wrench does not make wrenches stupid.

    First, is deterministic the same as algorithmic? Also, do the rules govern the behavior, or the rules merely describe the behavior? And if the rules are the laws of physics, what did particles do before anyone made the laws?

    As a side note, I prefer the amphibolous English translation "The die is cast.". It could mean was Caesar meant (rolling a cube to see which side comes up), or it could mean that a model (die) has already been forged (cast).

    Which laws of physics? What if are current laws are incorrect? Indeed, how does one algorithmically account for Heisenberg Uncertainty?

    But Apple patented the design, and the design is what Samsung is claiming as prior art in 2001. You could not invalidate the tablet itself on that basis, as the tablets in the movie are mere props, not working devices.

    Show me someone using ftp and I'll show you a password theft followed by a crack.

    Does that include anonymous FTP? Or using FTP between two computers in my apartment?
