Why not take a look at m0n0wall http://m0n0.ch/wall/ it provides many features only available on commercial routers and has an excellent traffic shaping tool. I would agree that Ubuntu is not leaps and bounds ahead in a user-friendly way. The one real difference between Ubuntu and other distros I have tried (Fedora, Suse, Debian), is that it's the only one to have successfuly detected my Wirless card (belkin pcmcia) in my laptop during installation. It also configured all the (fn) shortcut keys such as backlight dimming and volume controls.

bothering around with all this DNA stuff, why not just remove the bottom two ribs?? Then, we can our own reporductive organs in our mouth!

Why not test it out using the live CD? Let some staff and pupils give it a try and see what they think.
