Well, I think you've got the right idea with the second part of it... as IT becomes increasingly important and as these workers need to keep up with more and more, service will slip. This will be unacceptable, and the problem will be resolved. The only question is, how?
I know - I can't help feeling like this is a sort of symbolic, yet useless (almost tongue-in-cheek) move on the part of Kazaa... I mean, I wonder what % of illegal downloading actually goes on through australian kazaa clients that won't work around this...

They're not commercial messages. Sure, i totally agree with you if you're talking about tags, but i, personally, have never seen commercial messages or product reviews painted on a highway underpass. And its not as if they are obscuring anything that you would rather look at...
I can understand them not wanting us to copy and/or sell an EXCLUSIVE, non-necessary product (such as a DVD, VHS, etc), but for a newscast or the like, that's public information that they shouldn't supress from us... not to mention that this stops us from recording information that could be important/necessary in the future... I'm sure the governments don't record half as much as the collective public does.
