Re:Oracle should stick to databases

Oracle Linux?

Basically I'm wondering why Oracle want to pinch consumers away from Fedora and Ubuntu instead of just working with them to help intergrate their databases more seamlessly into these distros?
Have they ever been known to be that cooperative? Oracles in it for the money, baby. If a significant number of customers want to run Oracle on Linux, Oracle wants a piece of that OS pie, and they'll take it away from Red Hat if they can (which is a very good chance).
You may not be "into it", but it's a well known "hobby". People all over the world listen to scanners and keep an eye on this sort of thing. Maybe not for you, but quite a few people enjoy such things...
It might be possible to wait for many of the emergency vehicles to be on one side of the city and then start a fire on the other side of the city.
In Seattle? In any large city with widely dispersed fire and police resources? That better be one Hell of a fire if everyone in the whole fuckin' city is there...
Anyway, many people are asking WHY someone would need this info, but that's the wrong question. The question should be "why shouldn't they have it"? And from the story, clearly they still do have it, just not from this guy's site. The city still has this info up on their site.
And why do most people who are interested in this stuff want access to it? The same reason people buy scanners, because it's interesting to follow what's going on.
Not all participants in the movies are entirely willing though.
An exceptionally small number, these days. For the most part, the sex workers who perform in adult films and photo spreads are well paid, and their employment information well documented. As the prudes and "Moral Majority" types try to push their puritan views on the rest of society, the Adult Entertainment Industry has responded by insuring their books are above board and in order so that closed minded people who want to push their morality views on everyone else can not use these things to shut them down. Porn is a zillion dollar business because upstanding citizens from every "walk of life" spend money on porn, this kind of cash doesn't come from dirt bags, you know.
The difference between Napster and YouTube / Google is that there are good business reasons for the Entertainment Industry to work out business agreements with Google, where no such incentive was present with Napster. It's not just that Google has a lot more resources to fight any battles that come their way (they do...), it's that Google has more to offer the Big Media companies in terms of revenue streams from the end user customers. Napster was just a place to get free music.
It's only an author's surmise, but as I understand and interpret Microsoft's position, there is no line they will be able to cross ever while they are still a monopoly.
Hog wash. Microsoft has aready crossed many lines where people thought the antitrust settlement would have stopped them. Eventually, they will cross this one, too. Just not yet.
As the "code bloat" of Firefox approaches that of IE, and IE 7 is released with tabbed browsing, better security, and all the other whiz-bangs "stolen" from Firefox and Opera, we will see a slowing of growth in Firefox's market share. Public acceptance / perception of IE 7 will have a big influence over Firefox's continued market share growth.
Well, you're an idiot then. Outlook Express is a completely different program to Outlook.
Can you read? I said we've used the *full* version of Outlook for the last 6 years (and yes, I know Outlook Express has a different code base, though that has little to do with the look/feel of the UI). We have upgraded *with every new version*. The UI and functionality of Outlook (the full version) has changed *but not that much* over the last 6 years. Fact.
Yes... I didn't get the slash in there, "Outlook / Outlook Express".
I agree, there have been *some* UI changes. But the parent post implies radical changes from version to version. I've used Outlook (full) at work for the last 6 years, and over that time, the UI has not changed very much at all. Some, but not much.
if I cut myself shaving its a real pain in the ass... I have to doctor myself for a good hour to get some litle nicks to stop. My shots to stop bleeding cost around 1,000 bucks a pop...
I don't know how I could "prove" it, but I can verify that this has indeed been happening for at least 4+ months
If what you say is true, than it can't have much to do with Google, eh? Maybe Yahoo want to work out some financial arrangement with YouTube, and YouTube doesn't want to play? I guess that's Yahoo's right. YouTube has "Jumped The Shark" anyway...;)
It's not the "bloat" that bothers me, I'm a "kitchen sink" guy. It's the memory management issues. It's a pig. I'm still using it, but I've been looking very hard at Opera.
Saying that the Daily Show is as substantive as broadcast news based solely on reporting during the political conventions (two events) is a stretch, and hardly supports extrapolating the idea to a general statement about The Daily Show verses real news. This is very weak, and very typical of Slashdot "editing".
I have to admit, that the laser window snooping is the most effective in the list, as it is probably the easiest method and most reliable.
And that's the thing. Most industrial espionage is from disgruntled employees / former employees with lose lips. You can't solve this problem with electronics. Look at the HP thing: Sure the leaker used email to talk to the reporter, but he didn't have to. Remember Deep Throat?

PHP 2.0! MySQL 2.0 Just pass it on over to the marketing gurus...

Well... I did work for IEG for a few years... Look 'em up.

No, the poster was not. Re-read it.

Honestly, I hate Outlook as much as anyone here, but this just isn't true. The Oulook Outlook Express UI has been more or less the same for years.
People still use Eudora? Seriously, I used it years ago, but forgot it still even existed...
In Illinois?
Consider an electric razor...

Because when FF hogs all the memory, when I try to use something else, there's none for it? Maybe that's a good reason?

No, it's sad that adults would be attracted to the MySpace product. It's a piece of shit suitable for juvinial social hijinks...
That's pretty sad. I don't pay much attention to MySpace, but I would have thought adults would be in the minority.
