Gnome 3 is for people who don't really use their computer and want it to look like a phone. I abandoned Gnome 3 shortly after gnome 3 came out and gnome removed their feedback section rather then hear that nobody liked gnome 3.
Why waste time trying to make gnome3 look different. I gained nothing when I shifted to gnome3 and lost a lot. I shifted to mint w/cinnamon and see no reason to go back.
I found that everything I did in gnome3 took more steps...ie more clicks, more resizing, more drilling down, and on top of it all one additional click that does nothing more then get you off that stupid, useless page that is your faux desktop. For me and the way I use my computers this is not a step forward, but two steps back.
If gnome3 was on a smart phone, or a tablet, and I ran one application at a time, always full screen, it would be pretty, and get the job done. But I run this on a desktop computer with fair horse power, lots of memory, and with a BIG monitor, just so that I can have several things going on at once and see them all without a lot of dragging, drilling down, resizing, and general piddling around every time I sit down. I can do everything I need to with Gnome3, it is just more work.
Not sure what the gnome folks were thinking. I've heard it said that they were enamored with OS-X, don't know. However at work I have a very nice brand new iMac with Lion on it, and it is much easier to use and has a very different orientation then gnome3.

I was able to get rid of most of the dumb stuff in gnome3, and return Fedora 16 to a useful state by adding cinnamon.
I didn't say I had not used it, I said the last Windows I bought (meaning for my own use) was Windows 98. At work, our product runs FreeBSD, and I have a brand new iMac that I love. But I also have a Windows 7 computer there that I use for testing our product with IE. Windows 7 is their best effort, but I still prefer OS-X or Linux. Not too happy though, with the interface in Fedora 15. I think they fixed something that was not broken. I agree with you about Window 8, ugh!
RIAA,
I am very puzzled.
I used to find out about new recordings that I might want to buy, by hearing
them on the radio. For quite some time now it seems that Radio stations, AM
and FM, all seem to play the same tiny group of music, over and over. I
never hear the music I buy, and play at home, played on the radio.
When people started using the Internet to make small "Internet only" stations
there were enough of them so that I once again had a way to find out about
new stuff. How would I ever buy it if I did not know that it existed?
This morning I read:
"Kurt Hanson's Radio Internet Newsletter has an analysis of the new royalty
rates for Internet Radio announced by the US Copyright Office. The decision
is likely to put most Internet radio stations out of business by making the
cost of broadcasting much higher than revenues. From the article: 'The
Copyright Royalty Board is rejecting all of the arguments made by Webcasters
and instead adopting the "per play" rate proposal put forth by SoundExchange
(a digital music fee collection body created by the RIAA)...[The] math
suggests that the royalty rate decision -- for the performance alone, not even
including composers' royalties! -- is in the in the ballpark of 100% or more
of total revenues."
I am puzzled. It seems to me that you are killing the best, largest, and only
way for me, and others, to find out about new music from the artists that you
say you are representing. For the life of me I cannot figure out why you are
doing this. I can't buy it if I don't know it exists. I like Bluegrass,
Swing Band, 1950's oldies, Traditional Country, Traditional Western, Western
Swing, some Jazz, and several other types of music. I hear a very small
portion of this, once in a great while on the radio. But so rarely that it
is not worth sitting through the usual tiny, bland, group of stuff that is
normally played. Most of it is just not played anywhere except on the
Internet.
Please let me know how you think I am going to find out about the music you
want me to buy.
About 25 years ago I was the Sysadmn + Chief Cook and Bottle washer for a system in a Pathology Lab. It took real time data from all of the medical equipment that the lab used to test your blood. The lab in a hospital is where the sickest parts of the sickest people are brought to. The Doctor who ran the lab forced my company to by a second set of tools and software that never left the lab. I washed the hell out of my hands everytime I left that place. The rule we used was, once it went into the lab, it never came out except as medical waste to be burned or what ever they did with that stuff.

If you really want to make Fedora better get rid of gnome3.

Right on. I'd love a free computer as long as I could wipe it and install what I wanted.

Think KUDZU. Then get out your flame throwers, your, toxic poisons, tactical Nuc's, and be ready to fight the fight of your life...and lose.
