    I know how you feel....my only experience with Photoshop has been on the nice G4s at school.

    I used Windows XP for 18 months, and switched to Gentoo about 2 months ago. Haven't looked back since - perfect driver support, easy to configure.

    What more can I want?

    Higher learning curve? I'm 15, and got the hang of it fairly quickly.

    I'm not exactly an experienced user, but I have always found it easier to use than Photoshop, which to me is a bitch to work with, but still, I like it better than PSP.

    Seeing as you are not a teenager now, I should probably point out to you that most of us don't care what our parents opinions are. Believe it or not, we form opinions on our own, and not based on whether our parents supply condoms.

    You can teach a scammer or con artist to setup an SMTP server in a couple of hours, (well, less if they have Linux experience) but how easy is it to teach a slashdotter to forge signatures perfectly?

    It wasn't SuSE (Xandros Desktop I think, but I could be wrong), so that wouldn't work. As it was, I moved over to a real distro quickly enough.

    I can get a CD/CDs off of a friend who has ADSL, which is what I had to do until I got my 512k line (ahh....I can finally relax).

    Trying to download everything over 33k/56k isn't a fun experience though.

    Sex and alcohol are just things that teenagers do naturally.....do you think that the hormones are made to be repressed? And yes, I intentionally skimmed over drugs, because I happen to agree with you there.

    Hate to reply twice, but in RH8 you could use the "linux text" option from the cd to install without the GUI, IIRC. I don't know if you can still do this with Fedora though, since I use Gentoo.

    It wasn't SuSE that I had, can't remember what it was, I threw out the cd when I was able to get hold of RH.

    And anyway, I was on 33k, it was easier to go and borrow a book from the library that had the cds for a proper distro than it would have been to download all the stuff I wanted.

    I use Gentoo now anyway, the setup process doesn't matter that much to me anymore.

    Damn multi-CD distros not using the fact we're *gasp* usually connected to the Internet and can download what we want.

    Not everyone has high-speed internet you know.

    The irony is he only wanted the linux box as a samba server anyway so the GUI side was a complete irrelevance!

    I was just wondering, if all he needed was a samba server, what reason was there for choosing Mandrake?

    And anyway, if you don't like it don't use it. There are plenty of other distros to try.

    My first experience with Linux (I'm 15 now, so I've only been going about a year) was somewhat destroyed by not being able to install much, simply because my distro didn't ship with gcc - not just the default install, but missing entirely from the cd. And then I had 56k.

    You have no idea how quickly I switched to RH8.

    Since ISPs often have a spam filter in the service, that 'Click here to enable spam filter' button on their web site should be simple enough.

    I like AOL because I can save a copy of all my email, and then grep for it in my spam filter.

    It is harder to make convincing forgeries than it is to setup an SMTP server.

    No, I haven't RTFA, but I would assume that there would be an IR targetting system, since you know, this thing is meant to be shooting at a big metal thing with a giant flame coming out the bottom.

    Flying up high will help for a lot of missiles, and for others, like the SA-5, the giant anti-missile-laser-shooting plane will help.

    And then, you can just shoot missiles at the missile batteries.

    Plus, maps aren't very helpful at night or if you can't see out of the forest of trees that you are in when you need to answer the critical "where are we" question.

    We have GPS for that purpose. How is putting the map in a computer going to help?

    This (or something similar) is already used for storing acetylene in welding tanks, I don't see why it wasn't already used for Hydrogen.

    Doesn't matter, they still have 'em near schools.

    At my primary school, which I went to up until a couple of years ago, there's a petrol station across the street - around 20 meters from the fence.

    And you know what the only problem there ever was was caused by? A gas leak from a building site next door - on the side opposite the petrol station.
