    Please point out where you got that idea !

    The itrace solution it a tool to help tracking down the source of the attacks, and as such, only requires a few (~30%), routers along the route to have it installed. Heck, it's even enough that *one* router has it installed, as long as it's the *right one*

    . The fact is that the irtace solution does not require everybody to install it to be helpful, and that's where it differs lightyears from currently proposed solutions (i.e. filtering at the originating site)

    The "DivX :-)" encdoders use "codecs" for encoding both audio and video. You get a Fraunhofer MP3 codec with MediaPlayer2 so there is no legal problem here.

    Earlier this year however, two European hackers discovered that Xing inadvertently exposed the elusive CSS encryption key in their latest DVD player. Within weeks the anonymous team released a small software program named (appropriately) DeCSS, which allowed anyone to access the contents of a DVD

    They don't have a clue, do they ?

    This whole thing is not about DeCSS , CSS has be cryptanalyzed to the death, but MPAA is going after DeCSS because if they can use the DMCA to ban distribution of curcumvention devices, then they have a better change of bannig this stuff

    Basicly, with the link above, you can download sourcecode for programs that will retrieve ALL the 408 playerkeys on your DVD disk!!!

    That's playerkeys. Keys that will work on all DVD disks. And you can do this even if you don't know a single key in advance. All this takes just about 15 minutes on a Celeron 550 MHz

    If you don't want to play the DVDA's rules, don't. Make your format that isn't DVD. If it's better than DVD, and offers more features, then it will catch on, and it'll beat DVD -- remember VHS versus Betamax? VHS was more popular. It won.

    How about his :

    If you don't want to play the Microsoft's rules, don't. Make your OS that isn't Windows. If it's better than Windows, and offers more features, then it will catch on, and it'll beat Windows -- remember Windows versus Mac OS? Windows was more popular. It won.

    Nobody will win DVD while it has as good as monopoly on all new titles. It has the studios support and nobody can introduce a new format without they're support.

    Please get your facts straight !!

    If you have any information, about abybody seriously claiming that DeCSS is illegal in itself, then please provide a link.

    The whole DeCSS/2600/Cryptome story is about providing DeCSS, that is, somebody is claiming that you can't distribute DeCSS, but simply owning a copy is not a part of the accusation.

    Will it be illegal to provide links to where people can gamble on the net ? Nope I don't think so.

    And it won't be 10 minutes before the first non-blocked site will offer to proxy all traffic for www.letsgamble.com.

    Here's how:
    www.letsgamble.com (hereafter just called LG) will pay joeschmuck (you and me) for putting up a specific proxying. All traffic between LG and the gamblers will be encrypted at LG's site. The traffic will pass thru the proxy sites encrypted, that way nobody can sniff or manipulate the connections.

    As soon as the governament agency responsable for the censorshit will have sent the ISP's a new IP address to block, a new proxy service will pop up somewhere.

    Information about where to find proxies to gamble, will then be provided by www.2600.com or www.eff.org

    Sigh,, will they newer learn ?

    Instead it is the evil sibling of the notorious UCITA that has been opposed by the attorney generals of most states.

    It's primary purpose is to make one-line electronical agreements, legaly binding, when you click the "Agree" button.

    So, let's say that they go to court and that the GPL doesn't hold up.

    The big question then is this: With the licence gone, but surely not the author's copyright, how can anybody legally distribute the software ?

    It looks like that if you don't have a licence at all, then you can't do squat with the software. And that includes any and all "violators".

When said that way, it better points out how the picky nature of the final details is usually the problem, not the misjudgment of how much work there was to do.

    I realy don't know where you guys have been but the *real* saying is called the 20/80 principle and it goes like this:

    The first 80% of the work takes only 20% of the time, and the last 20%, 80% of the time.

    It would serve justice better to give the 'informer' a medal, since he is making the "crime" more visible !!!
