bollocks bollocks bollocks.
The entire point of the article is that you CAN'T ditch IE, as it has become such an integral part of the operating system. The flaws are there whether you choose to use the underdeveloped M$ browser or not.
Done the laptop in closed bag trick, also with a P4... and not one of the nice slimmed down minimal power requirement ones. Oh, no, one of the bigass massive heatsink, 90 minutes battery life ones.
Anyone familiar with a Toshiba Satellite 3410 will know that they have a button on the front used to power on the CD drive without powering on the rest of the unit. They may also know that pressing it multiple times causes the machine to boot. They may ALSO know that sliding the laptop into the laptop bag with this button facing down is something of a bad idea.
When I went to investigate the noise not unlike that of a fanheater coming from my bag, ACPI told me that the processor temperature was somewhere between 60 and 70 degrees C. I think it had been running for about an hour.... and it's alive to tell the tale. Phew.

My vote goes for SuSE, but then I'm lucky enough to work for a company that buys the Pro version of each update as soon as it's released.
The default installer gives you OpenOffice, Gimp, XMMS and various others. The Kaffeine media player is crippled, but it's the work of about half an hour to download and install mplayer (via the standard./configure, make, make install).
I currently have it running on both my laptops, the older of which is a PII 266. Yes, it crawls, but it's still quicker and more stable than Win2k was. On the whole support for laptops is pretty good.
with 9.1 you get nice packages of Konqueror, Mozilla and Firefox with Java and Flash support out of the box. You even get a Google search box. I suppose they could have gone one step further and installed Crossover Plugin as well for Shockwave, but that would add an extra cost/licensing implication. I know SuSE Desktop comes bundled with Crossover so maybe that's your answer.
The screen on the Treo 600 is a classic example of wasted screen real estate. The resolution is far too low. I've recently purchased a Zircon Z3 which is about half the size but thanks to a high resolution screen is IMHO much easier on the eye.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say ...
what?!
It's highly unlikely that the machine in question will have a network boot ROM. So to do this it couldn't be "diskless"
I'm not so sure about that. Been to #linux on any of the big three networks lately?

As your man above said, SuSE
