It would be very cool to have a Linux native version of this game. I have always loved the WarCraft games and I expect this one will be no exception to that.:)
I work for a School District so I not only understand the need for some type of survalance and security I also am an advocate for it. If we had the funds to do so I would have a camera at every entrance, in every hall, and in every out of the way nook and crany. However tracking them like you would track shipments of merchandise or live stock is going overboard. In theory it seems a good idea but where would it end? Surely once the children have been tagged, whether it is strapped on or implanted, do you think that other places won't just start putting in rfid recievers to track them elsewhere? And how long do you think it would just be the children being tracked?
This seems to me like it could be a starting point for tracking other individules. At first maybe prisoners or employees, then maybe hospital patients and millitary personel. And who is to keep any one with a rfid reciever from tracking you. I am not trying to say this is a conspirisy I am warning that there is a very real possibility this will lead somewhere we do not wish to be. Would you really feel safer knowing that the government or other agencies could track criminals and ex-criminals so they would be less likely to commit a crime, if it meant that they were also tracking you? Even if a system like that wasn't abused, how willing would you be to have your whereabouts know 24 hours a day to someone.
Like I said I'm not trying to scare anyone into thinking this is a conspirisy I just am giving my opinion. Many people I am sure would point out other good reasons for this, like finding lost missing persons or locateing someone in a medical emergency or hundreds of other good reasons. And ultimatly anything can be used both for good and for bad. I just want you to ask yourselves, would you want to be tracked? Even if it could save your life?
I am not attempting to draw trolls and I did not mean this as flaimbait. This is just asking you to think if it was you in there position.
So colder in the arctic and warmer in the equator?
Why is this a problem? Last I heard we were concerned with the melting ice caps in the arctic. To me this would seem to be a step tword repairing that problem. Not just the projected imediate teperature change but adding to that the absence of the greenhouse gasses that were produced by the fosil fuel burning power plants that the wind mills would replace.
As for someones mention of noise in the comments, I have been near one of these farms somewhere in Minnesota and I couldn't hear anything. Perhaps this is a brand traight though.
I didn't see it mentioned but ntop is a great way to keep track of network traffic. Also ethereal, iptraf, etherape, and nessus.
Note: these are just monitoring tools and not firewalls or config tools.
Hope it helps:)
I am into high power laptops and talked to the tech support at Falcon already, before I submitted the article, about when I could expect an Athalon 64 FX-53 with an nVidia graphics card. They said about 3-4 months, which is fine since I wont be able to afford it for quite some time.
Also, I had always planned on putting Gentoo on. I just love Portage. In fact that reminds me I have to compile the new Gentoo sources I just finished emerging.
Bye

I wrote the article and I am in no way connected to Falcon Northwest. I don't build the laptops either. In fact I don't even own a Falcon machine, althogh I would like to.
I just happen to be a fan and saw that they were now offering a laptop and was excited.
If this were a sales pitch do you really think I would have brought up two of their main competetors? And the battery life bit, Althogh that ones almost a no brainer for any high powered laptop.
Just wanted to clear up the confusion.

If/when I get one I will be putting Gentoo on it. But I'll wait for the Athalon 64 FX-53 and nVidia graphics card.
nVidia cards seem to work better under Linux then Ati, at least in my experiance.
The Falcon Northwest tech support said 3 to 4 months for the athalons.
A Linux native version.
I have high hopes that Blizzard will satisfy the Linux gamer. And I don't mean with WineX.
