I am a plumber, was doing multi million dollar projects by the time is 26, got bored with it, so I became an "IT Guy", funny thing was I made more money as a plumber, now I'm a Estimator for a plumbing company, manage their Web, email, intra, and writing a custom database for internal use.
Now I can show up to your house and clean out your shit or clean out the shit in your computer....

When ever a buddy or family calls, I always need to find out what kinda "patience" I'm working on, Kinda hard to tell sometimes, they all use the same terms, "Damn thing won't work" , "I just use it" , followed by my question , what did you do before it happened? Kinda the same Logic for both huh?
Having lived through 3 hurricains in 6 weeks, after Charlie my wife made me buy a generator, best purchase I made in years ( besides that new G5 17" imac). The only generator available was a huge 12000 watt unit for like $2000. I bought it anyway, more is better right. Well we were outa power for like 10 days total, but I had the genny running and was able to power the whole house, including the A/C. Man i loved watching Lord of the Rings in the a/c, on my entertainment center, while my neighbors were trying to find out when the next shipment of ice was coming into the area. Just Kidding, I had my neighbors over to the house alot.
Then we went through the other 2, needless to say that genny is hard wired into the house pannel now.
spam is not the issue, it's the damn idiots who don't protect their 'puters' from being Zombied. The proliferation of high speed internet is the contributing issue in Spam, but, not to sound to much like a zealot, it's the unedgumacated people with that brand new $400 HP from 'Bestbuy' with the 3 years of AOHell Broadband, that are the real issue.
Now I hate Spam as much as the next geek but the facts of the matter are that there is no way to prevent Spam unless a) People are educated, and are shown the errors of their actions, IE: if they respond to spam, beat them to a pulp, b) Teach them that all free software is not a 'must have thing' c) Have a professional setup their brand new super duper, Wintel revenue generator, ehem... I mean computer, and a resonable firewall.
Just to make another point, is it all bad for the internet, to have the M$ Monolith, start to get on the security band wagon. If their shitty little firewall app, can stop just some of these script kiddies, then I thinks is great. That's the 1st step, prevent the new or unedgumacated from doing harm to themselves, and ultimatly to me, and keeps down the useless traffice so I can get better download times on my porn;)
