Don't expect that to happen, though. The multinational corporations own the US government lock, stock, and barrel. Your vote is a meaningless joke when GM can bribe both candidates equally.
Shift of blame. You are blaming the corporations. You take no responsiblitlity for yourself. Who did you vote for the last election? Is the people elected in your government the result of the corporations or the people. I hear a lot of this crap lately. Crying about how the evil companies are the blame for all of the worlds problems. No one blames peoples the sheep like mentality of voteing for the same two damn parties all the time. If you don't like the people in government, help others to get elected or run yourself. This is a government for the people by the people. Your cynical acceptance of the status quo is what allows a few immoral corporations to take advantage of situations created by your indifference.
I think this is the only article on slashdot, that had anything positive to say about microsoft. This is the problem when you try to protect people. ISP regulating what I put on my computer and run online is not what we need. People should be allowed to run whatever they want to on their computers.
The idea that something can be put into a tool that I buy WHETHER I want it or not, and then we will see if my privacy invasion is good or evil latter makes me want to throttle someone.
I'm sorry I was outraged about the chip too, but all I could thing when I read your comment is man he used the wrong homonym.
Yes lets let the government do it for us. Heck lets let the government do everything for us. We'll let them vote for us and let them control our lives. What that doesn't sound good to you? Well it doesn't for me. Governments are innefiecient, anyone who has worked for one can tell you that. Regulation works better in some places because no healthy competition was allowed to exhist there. Show me a industry that has a healthy competition, vs a regulated industry and you will see that the free market works better.
When companies are deregulated pricess go up because they don't have any competition. In the long run prices will go down. Companies that have been regulated for a long time do not have the same mentality of non regulated companies.
Are people still going on about loggin? Shortsited logging companies huh? And what happens after a logging company clears out part of a forest? The replant the trees? Yes they do which is why we have more trees today in america then we did over 100 years ago.
God you people are blind. Linux is not that great. I use linux and its not easy for a novice to use. Windows is. Linux is not compatible with a lot of hardware. Windows is. Most software that people use is compatible on windows. Linux had never made any sense for the desktop user. They only argument you off against windows is that linux is free, well free isn't everything. Sure you pay for windows, but I also get alot of benefits for paying for windows. Do you get technical support for getting a free os? I think not.
Windows makes sense to use now for the desktop, not linux. Linux is good for a server, or an embedded computer. Until linux is made into a complete desktop (and I mean as well thought out as windows xp or os x, not just a collection of programs), easy to use with an abundance of software that people are using and want to use, no one will switch over to linux.
You completly missed my point. The point of the article says we should use space elevators as our main source of launching things instead of putting money into a the CEV. I'm just saying putting all our bets on an unproven technology could hold us back if they turn out to not work. We will just end up like we did with the X-33, billions of dollars wasted.
Yes they make an excellent point
However, we can build space elevators even more cheaply by taking advantage of other new technologies which are well understood in the laboratory but which needs to be built at largescale by the engineers with the big budgets.
This quote sums up space elevators nicely. They are untested technology. The X-33 had more proven technology than a space elevator has. Lots of money time and effort needs to put into space elevators before we can find out if it will even work. It sounds nice to have such cheap launches but our efforts are better spent on tested and proven technologies that we have today.
I really like the personification of microsoft as if it was a single human being. Microsoft is a company made of many different people, who are all in the business of makeing money. If they make a business decision it will be based on the merits of that decision and not on whether or not they will be admiting something.
If microsoft thinks they can make money from buying red hat they will. So what if a bunch of nerds who read slashdot think they are admiting that linux is better then windows.
I really don't like how everyone portrays microsoft as the giant fighting goliath. Microsoft is not evil, despite what people think about microsoft they really have done great things for the computer industry.
I totally agree with the parent. I'd still rather use DOS rather than linux, because it is so easy to use.
And when linux is going to take over? Somepeople think that linux is the only open source software out there, there are several projects that look technically better than linux. Haiku OS is one noticable project.
Ok news to people around here, a light saber is not a laser. I don't know why every one thinks this. I light sabre is a energy beam that goes out from the handle and circles back (think extended donut) only useing energy when you cut through something.
Is it really worth sending a shuttle up to fix it? It costs so much to send a shuttle up to do it wouldn't it be cheaper to send up a new one? It seems to me that were going to spend entirely to much money on something that is old obsolete. Why not replace it with something new and better?
The free market has chosen windows. Windows is a success. Some persons bet against windows, and they lost. Those who bet on unsuccessful operating systems harbor a resentment over the success of windows. They are jealous. This causes them to write distortions. Because of their resentment toward windows, they will not write the truth, but only what promotes their personal agenda. They can only try to tear down the accomplishments of others. They are bitter. It's not right. But it's the dark side of human nature.
There are at least 2 sides to every aurgument.
Why don't we fix email? They are fighting the symtoms not the disease. The problem is how our email framework is set up. If we had an something where you could pick who gets to email you then you wouldn't have to worry about email. This is just one more step in the direction of every single government regulating the internet with conflicting laws.
How bout researching something a little more practible. Look at Burt Rutans space ship one. Useing non state of the art technology he will be launching a reusable space ship for a fraction of the price of any other space vehicles. It just shows you that we should get rid of NASA and start funding private companies.
And what is the point of this? If I wanted a bigger paper size I would buy the bigger size, but if I took to smaller peices and taped them together I would overlap them so they would not be the same size as the bigger paper. So someone want to tell me a good reason why we should switch, we don't use metric anyway.
I care. I care enough to kill most of you to save you, because that is what it is going to take to fix this planet. And right now I don't want any of you off this planet untill I fixed this screwed up civilization. You kill each other here, and you will kill each other on the moon or mars. But even if I fail to save your race there is always the other animals on this planet. Want to see planet of the apes become reality? You weren't the first creatures on this planet to have technology and you won't be the last.

Does anybody else think this thing looks like a prototype for a lightsaber?

DC-X was done for the department of defense not for nasa.

Actually when a dog does this he is asserting his dominance over the other dog, it is not sexual in nature.

GTA America, now we can make games based on real cities. I think this is a great idea.

Even if one other fails they still have the thrusters to stabilize the station. Gyros are there just to save fuel, they are not critical components.
