You are right, this is considered a very valid excuse. But its a sad excuse. Hopefully no one wonders why their children turned out like the people they see on tv or in video games. They don't have much else as a role model.

Regardless, we don't let minors buy pronography, and they really shouldn't be let into certain films without parental permission. I don't see a problem with law that also adds video games to that list. It isn't banishing video games. It simply requires parents to be involved in the purchase. Perhaps they'll start to take a look at what their kids are playing.

I would hope they wouldn't, but its very possible. Especially since Cogress can't seem to do much on their own anyway.

I thinks the ability for abuse is too large to allow, but perhaps we should all be a little more open minded as opposed to turning this into a flame war. I really don't think the space elevator concept will work. You have a massive ball and chain attached to a most likely ocean going platform that is mobile. This mobile platform is all that is connecting this giant ball that is trying to hurl itself away from the reaches of gravity to the earth. I see a couple problems with this. One, the platform getting picked up, two the platform getting pulled along the worlds oceans out of control by a giant ball on a cable. Finally three, what is to keep this giant ball directly above the platform. They want to use centripital force to keep tension on the line so that thing doesn't fall to earth. I can only see this little ball going faster or slower than earth's rotation and the cable pretty much trying to wrap istelf around earth.

I think they'll hit that price point when they build a small all in one board that can be produced en masse and still please a large crowd. When you can slap a board into a box, add a HD and a CDRom and let it go, the price should be significantly lower. Its close to that now with mobo's that have everything but ram and the processor, but each of those components cost a decent chunk of change.

People complain up a storm about Microsoft's forced product registration, but I can easily see other software companies using similar tactics (not the same) to try and circumvent this. The government can't enforce a large portion of the laws it already has enacted. So they sit there helping no one, all the while they are waiting to be used in ways they were never designed for. I'm just real uncomfortable with it.
