I kind of agree with your sentiment, I suppose in an ideal world no body should infringe copyright and follow all the laws that matter..
but, I think copyright is dead, it will be a slow death and something will have to take it's place. I think it is dead because it has outlived it's purpose. It was designed to protect authors so that they would produce art and innovations. It has now become a weapon of mass destruction for large mega corps.
I no longer have much respect for copyrights. I will infringe if I can, when I want and not feel bad about it. It is not a moral issue, it is economical. I am being civilly disobediant.
This is why anon P2P nets are important, they will accellerate the Next Big Thing. They will bring evolution.
I dont know what will encourge people in the future to produce. Maybe boredom. But it will not be copyright and the transition should be as short as possible.
Viva la P2P
Pablo..
BTW Democrocy is also dead. It just doesnt know it yet. Bring on benign anarchy..
Try getting BB in the republic of Ireland.. Check out Ireland offline (www.irelandoffline.org) for the true horrors of trying to get BB.
My line in my new house was contineously failing I was fighting with Eircom (our national carrier) for ages.
Finally, I disconnected a load of old internal lines and suddenly I passed the line tests. I got BB, reconnected the internal lines and now happliy use BB, while on the online checker I fail the test.. Crazy!
Our national infrastructure has been sucked dry by vulture capitalists. The copper is falling apart.
We have recent gotten 1-3MB connections and the last year or two has been better, but it is estimated that only about 40-50% of the lines are capable of using ADSL.
With UGC( bigest euro cable company) having just bought NTL (our bigest cable company) maybe the future will be rosier..

Note: Recently most of the BB connection were upgraded from 512 down to 1024 down for free, which was cool, but the up was kept as 128 for some crazy irish only reason.
I disagree. Apple certainly has a step up in technology and integration wrt linux. But philosphically linux and GNU is the next step.
Having a completely open OS will open doors that apple will never reach.
GPL and open source will change the computing world and be the dominant paradigm for the next decade. This is not a flash in the pan, the potential is huge.
I have a feeling it could even be mathematically proven!!
I really tried to like this series, but the whole western theme really put me off. Now I like westerns set in 1800's, but it does not fly for my set in the future. I could not suspend my disbelief.
Same for buffy or angel for me, so I guess I'm in the minority.
I am wondering what the effect american culture will have on the future considering so many nations are going to be in space in the next 50 years. Looks like it will be a new frontier, but very different from a western:)...

I emailed the minister about this ages ago. I wanted a paper trail for this new e-voting system he was introducing. Some of the Irish ministers are great an will email you personnally.
Dear ould Martin, however, got a lackey to email me a ref number. That was the last I heard.
Serves him right!! This is a good thing for e-voting. Maybe they will address the concerns and implement a safe, secure system (that allows us to spoil our votes).

The software within the printers firmware would be patentable as it would control all the physical components of the machine (printer).
Right now I would not mind this change, but will I feel the same way in 10 years when home automation software hits GPL big time...

>An analysis of the tactical strengths and >weaknesses of specific checkpoints along "Route >Irish",
I have searched and searched but why did they call the worst road in Iraq "Route Irish".
As an Irish Citizen and against the War I'm insulted to be linked to it this way.
Is it because of Shannon Ariport being the stop over??

I had my fun and that's all that matters...
