However I also believe a parents should be able to buy and serve it to their children.
agreed. there's a specific provision for that in Saskatchewan's Alcohol regs, which i find quite sensible.
(1)Subject to subsections (2) to (4), no person shall sell or give beverage alcohol to a minor and nothing in this Act is to be construed as authorizing the sale of beverage alcohol to minors.
(2)Subsection (1) does not apply to a parent, guardian or spouse who gives beverage alcohol in a private place to a minor who is his or her child, ward or spouse, as the case may be.
(3)A physician, dentist or person under the direction of a physician or dentist may provide beverage alcohol to a minor for medicinal purposes.
(4)A priest, clergyman or minister in the performance of religious ceremonies may provide wine to a minor.
(5)A person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction, to a fine of not less than $200 nor more than $2,500, imprisonment for a term of two months or both.
(6)A person may be convicted of contravening subsection (1) notwithstanding that the minor does not appear to be a minor
my mom had a repeating "credit declined" problem when she was trying to buy some dishes online.
called them up, and they were blocking the charges at it was "outside her normal spending habits" (this was the first time she ever bought anything online) and tripped their identify theft protection. a couple minutes for verifacation, then we're away and the plates are bought.
i frankly don't get how they're allowed to block charges for any reason other than identify theft or perhaps if the recipient is on some kind of government "don't send money to these guys" list.
The purpose of a driver's license is to show and prove proficiency in driving, not anything else. It is not meant as a defacto identification card or anything else. It is a license to drive, period.
in most cases, it's a 2-in-1 card. it serves are both a license to drive and as government-issued identifacation. you can get a non-license "state ID card".
here in Saskatchewan, we have our ID card and our actual driver's license is a small sheet of cardstock-like paper that we get a new one of every year and a new ID card every 4 years.
i personally like the swivel bit. there're a lot of times when i need a keyboard or a write-on screen and that seems to be to be the most elegant method for it, rather than having to lug around an external keyboard, plus a way to prop up the tablet or use a OSK (which is too damn slow).
though i agree that weight is an issue. perhaps solid-state drives and ultracaps replacing the battery would help for that.
To recharge current laptop batteries in 1 minute on 120V would require a 30 amp outlet, while standard outlets max-out at 15 (and I don't recommend maxing them out, BTW).
then we'll charge it in 2-3 minutes. still a hell of a lot faster than the hour-and-a-half it takes for my current laptop to fully charge.
ethanol is a very good fuel if you use it right. using forced induction (super/turbocharger) allows one to easily match or even exceed the fuel economy of gasoline, but with more engine power output, due to ethanol's crazy octane (about 130, vs. bog-standard 87 gas or premium 96. if it can work for indy cars, it can work for the rest of us.). it may contain less absolute energy than gas, but which is more? 50% of 100 or 70% of 80?
though i agree corn is a lousy source of it. sugarcane/beet is a much better thing to grow for it.
right-click on desktop, hit "change background", change the wallpaper to something else of your preference, go to theme tab, change the color to something else you like.
i personally hate the default brown too, but it's trivial to change it yourself 10 seconds after booting up for the first time.
1. from what i've read about that processor, it running at 1.5ghz seems to be roughly comparable to a p3 at 1ghz. i didn't say it was a p3, i said it would seem to perform more-or-less like a p3 that lower speed.
2. *shrug*. barring them being so cheap it causes stability issues, i don't see the problem.
3. so? that's not the market it is aimed at. this system is adequate for mundane uses, such as home accounting, family photos, email, web browsing, and light games. (think majong, sudoko, solitaire, etc.). it's like complaining that a tack hammer isn't very useful for demolition.
4. i have yet to ever see linux software in walmart (barring windows software that will run on wine), so i'm not sure what you're on about for that.
the catwhisker part comes from the pre-diode designs, like this. the catwhisker is the wire that connects to the detector crystal, which did form a diode
i actually have such a thing at home that i made when i was 10, using a piece of iron pyrite as the detector.
AFAIK, that proc would seem to be roughly equal to a 1ghz p3.
can't find any info at all on the video chip, though i presume it would be a via chrome or something.
though the name is Wine Is Not an Emulator. in my experiance, windows apps on wine generally run at equal or better speed than under windows.
overall, not enough information available. i'd personally say it would likely work, in a manner of speaking, though likely with everything turned down to the absolute minimum settings, but even then would likely have problems in intensive situations (city rush hour, raids, etc.)
bottom line : it would likely work, but it doesn't seem like a good idea.
a better idea might be the computer this guy suggests, after the planned ram upgrade, maybe a better videocard, and tossing vista in favour of installing XP, (k/x/flux/whatever)ubuntu, or insert-your-favorite-linux-distro.
huh? the latest version of OO.o runs just fine on the old p3 1ghz/512MB rig i just gave to my aunt and i imagine that machine is fairly comparable to this one.
and i don't get the "only software walmart sells" thing unless they removed adept/synaptic/etc. in the course of their customization (TFA's don't say they did, so i assume they didn't as that would be of interest and a target for annoyance here.)
i like Slack as a learning tool (first linux distro i ever used), but i grew up using a GUI, and while i can use the command line pretty well, i still like GUI tools for most tasks, but the command line is still the easiest/most efficient way to do many things, and even a GUI app can be very complex . if you tell me that PCB program i learned to use last year doesn't need a manual, I'd say you need a psych exam and the same goes for any other reasonably complex GUI app. GUI does not automatically imply simplicity or easy-to-use-ness.

my version of good != your version of good.
just go download it and try, then pay if you like it. that's what i see as the best thing about this.
me thinks you need a new bank.

The federal government is not, repeat NOT, responsible for laws regarding two of the things on your list.
which two?
agreed. i don't get it. they let you drive, smoke, vote, and go die for your country, but you can't have a beer for another 3(?) years?
drinking age here is 19, which makes more sense to me.

heh. another player. fun diversion (it runs off a thumbdrive nicely), though the immaturity of most of the players grates me at times.
one or two "lucky hits" can cripple tank, it's just a matter of how lucky they need to be.
Don't post it on a public web site.
and make sure no one else posts it either. every 3rd* person has a cell phone capable of recording video or at the very least taking pictures.

that's the coleman flashcell?.
Not True. The ability of a water kettle to boil water is determined by its wattage and NOT by whether it runs 120 V or 240 V.
yes, but twice as many volts means twice as many watts, current being constant.
ah. thanks for clarifying.
aside from the fact that directly contradicts a previous federal court ruling that making available is not infringing.

then that would be a criminal matter and completely different rules would apply, as this was a civil case.

I am not familiar with that license but it does have a really long name.
it's one of the creative commons family of licenses.
more details here.

Not sure on the difference.
the alt CD lacks the liveCD's nice GUI installer and provides some advanced installation options that aren't available through the liveCD.
also useful if you can't get the liveCD to work for some reason, usually esoteric graphics hardware.
