Democracy is like "you vote for a guy and then the Supreme Court will decide"
There are successful ways to implement something and unsuccessful ways to implement something. Communism isn't inherently bad, anymore then Democracy is. But look at Iraq, that was a democracy.
Communism and Open Source do sound similar (in their principles). The parent (was probably a troll) but only because they knew that everyone would see them saying "sounds like something bad to me" instead of "sounds like communism to me."
Communism isn't necessarily bad. I was thinking in the shower (before I saw this article) that communism is a set-up where everyone benefits by the greater good of the community. This works by making sure everyone can benefit from the efforts of individuals. Sounds like Open Source doesn't it?
If used properly these things are good. However with all things they can be bad as well. People probably said the same thing about the radio and whatnot, and these have yet to be made illegal. This thing's purpose is to let you drive. Not distract you. Mobile phones and televisions' purposes are to distract you.
But what happens when it's dark? I would find it MUCH easier to have the directions shown on a screen and/or spoken to me.
There is also the problem of non-natives not understanding the street signs. Maybe because the symbols are different in their country or because they don't read the language (only speak it).
Car rentals could make a lot of money out of these beauties.

They should set up some kind of service, where they can check whom you are first, so if you go on some hacking spree they know whom to blame.
Wow, sounds like China. But no, this isn't needed because of free WiFi. At the moment I can go to an internet cafe and surf the web anonymously. All I have to do is hand over cash (well, it was possible in Rome. I'm assuming it's possible in Australia and America).

I have to admit, I'm becoming annoyed with WiFi. Not because I think there is anything wrong with it, but for the simple reason that if there is ANYTHING involving networks, out comes WiFi.
Why is WiFi so great? And why is everyone working to provide free access to it? Free acces (as in beer) is great. But I just have one question. Why?
Sure it's convenient and everything, but governments, businesses and individuals are all doing this. Providing free WiFi. Why? What payoff does everyone get?
What would be more interesting is if we could have this statistic for other countries. Such as what percentage of Japanese internet users are using broadband? What percentage of Australian internet users are using broadband? You get the idea;) I tried googling and found nothing.
Reason I ask is I know that most of the internet users I speak with all have broadband.
Telstra made unlimited broadband cheaper then limited broadband as a deliberate ploy to get everyone over onto the same deal. Companies may do the same to get dial up out of the picture.
Of course I immediately donned my tin-foil and said watch them bump up the price of the unlimited once everyone has moved onto it. But so far they haven't bumped up the price. And they were bumping up the price for limited broadband a lot more often then they have been bumping up the price for unlimited broadband.
we hate Howard. He's a fuckwit whose so far up Bush's ass that he will do ANYTHING Bush says too. We went to war because Howard was too scared to say no to Bush. We allowed Australian citizens to be illegally detained by America because Howard was too scared to stand up to Bush. Now we're going to get screwed over with this trade agreement because Howards is too scared to say no to Bush.
why a large portion of the world doesn't like America right now.
I personally don't have anything against America as a country. Some of the things it does and it's current administration are another story, but America as a country on a whole (I don't support giving out weapons) I don't have a problem with.
However a lot of the world does have a big problem with America. And it's things like this that are the reason. It's why we also have problems with other countries.
With all the Microsoft bashing (regardless of whether or not it is always warranted) how could it be anything BUT a hostile environment for Microsoft supporters? It is common for people to infer that people who use Microsoft products do so because they are computer illiterate and only idiots would use such an insecure piece of software. How is that anything but a hostile environment for Microsoft supporters?
If you're going to mod me down as a Troll, fine. But at least say why you think I'm being a troll. One cannot learn without feedback. And a Karma rating is a very limited form of feedback.
Ten gets you twenty that marketing departments would love this. 'Hey, this is a list of people chating while visiting your website.'
That was my first thought but your post makes it sound negative. It aint bad, it's good. People provide marketing feedback on something, now marketing can use this information in the future to make their site more appealing. Oh how terrible.
geeks can be Microsoft supporters. But the masses here at slashdot seem to want them to begone and have to constantly make a hostile environment for them.
Sounds like TCP (can't remember what it stands for. It's trusted computing. The thing Palladium is connected too).
Bill Gates was all for it, but little did he realise the geeks were too. They were waiting for the day when they could refuse to interact with Windows machines at all.
What gives you (or anyone else) the right to decide what is or isn't on television? The only people deciding should be the creators and distributors. If you don't like what you see, change the channel or, god forbid, turn it off. People don't need to be protected from content. People need the ability to choose what content they view. Censorship takes away my ability to choose.
Such people have never known what a browser is. The only thing that has changed is they're now using it. It is good those sort of people are using the internet, it's great the technology is easy enough for them no matter how little they know.
Given that, and given some examples that slip through (like Office for the mac.. it's actually quite a bit nicer than the windows version)... you can see that they are capable of producing good software that plays nice.
Microsoft is actually quite smart. If they actually wrote good software all the time, then they'd be screwed. Because they would have made great software, so great that they can't think of any way to innovate it. No. Microsoft actively chooses to make mediocre software, that way they can make the next update just a little bit better for hardly any effort.

My parents rented a car in Queensland and it came with such a system.

So? XP is supposed to be cutting-edge.
Shouldn't someone tell Microsoft this?
how could you have a crater named after a non-existant girlfriend ;)
He would have posted the comment sooner but he had a cold.

I hear Longhorn will have the ability to send viruses to aliens. However the aliens will also have to run Longhorn or it won't work.
