Perhaps I'm just to cynical but I tend to think that the USA decided to go to the moon to make the USSR look weak.
In a sense it was a competition between the USA and USSR over who had the bigest "dick", and phallic objects don't get any bigger or more powerful than a Saturn 5 rocket:-)
Now the enemy is Islamic fundamentalists, and none of them are going to compete in a race to Mars.
Clearly this work by Mills uses certain structures of organisation that are part of Unix and hence violate the legal and intelectual property rights of SCO.
You know, like you read it lines going from left to right....
Indeedy, they hope to find where the Heliosphere is.
For those who don't know, the Heliosphere "defines" the boundary of our solar system, it is the point at which the solar wind can no longer be detected.
No one knows exactly where it is, the Voyager probes will be the first man made objects to pass it.
These things are engineered to last a certain ammount of time, as component specifications are generally conservative equipment will often last longer than it was designed for.
Take the voyager 2 probe, this was launched with the intent of exploring Jupier and Saturn. But they managed to extend the mission out to both Neptune and Uranus.
Of course they thought about these posibilities, they chose the launch date such that they could continue their slingshot in that direction:-)
Reducing staff numbers often has very little to do with hard economics and much more to do with sending a clear message to the city that we are serious about "controlling costs", "boosting profits" or some such.
Take ARM for example, got rid of 10% of its staff because profits were down. Still making a profit and had a huge pile of cash in the bank.
Lowered staff morale, reduced their ability to complete projects but the city liked it.
I'm not sure this will make you feel better but this startergy has a limited lifetime.
The contribution of your page to another pages page rank depends on two factors, firstly the page rank of your page, and secondly the number of links coming from your page.
As more people take up this tactic the return everyone gets from it, gets smaller. E.g. When there are hundred of links on that page they cease to have any real value. Eventually people should give up on this one.
The VIA C3 had a rather poor floating point unit, so for apps that need it (e.g. 3D games) they do very badly.
Of course for playing MP3 or WMA files and office apps the older 533MHz (Eden 5000) version was nippy enough:-)
As far as I'm aware they havent improved the FPU yet. Someone let me know if I'm wrong. This armchair CPU designer would of liked to see them throw more silicon at this area.
Simply increasing the clock speed always generates more heat, a more complex FPU would only generate more heat if your making use of the FPU.
Controlling a fans RPM speed with CPU temperature is trivial so this makes a lot of sense.
I've been out to India twice for business trips (mostly in Bangalore) and you cant help noticing the contrast between the rich and educated in the tech industries and the incredibly poor people in the same city. Of course there are a lot of inbetween people as well, but the contrast between the extremes is scary.
Considering a mobile phone is an expensive bit of kit (if you get it "free" you pay for it over a few years on calls) you have to wonder if most people can afford a mobile phone.
So the next stage in the evolution of PC cooling is to have a heat pump that can direct the heat generated by your Athlon to either the oven compartment or outside (once you reach 200C)
It might of been amusing to have unleashed some competent wargamers to see some sensible tactics used.
However, a typical wargamer is a 12 year old who will focus most of their attention on ensuring they get to move first, even when its disadvantageous for both themselves and their team.

When I started reading Philip K. Dick's books I soon got the feeling he was on drugs. I now know he was.
Why do I get the feeling LSD played some part in the concept for this game? Wow man look at the colour of the sound....

Does anyone know if the magnetic poles shift without the field significantly weakening?
As I recall life on the planet earth depends on the van allen radiation belt, and that needs the magnetic field and the solar wind to exist.
1.3Ghz should be enough for anyone but....
