Like computers, clothing and almost anything else? What if it is made in the US, but the company is based elsewhere?
And what about companies who deliver to American organizations, because it would be easy to set up a company that has only US workers, but buys everything abroad for an extremely small fee.
What if the goods are better then what you can buy? What if the workers are in the US, but are not Americans? What if there is only 1 person working who isn't American, but Samoan pr Puerto Rican who has served in the military?
At what moment should you say that capiltalism is not good anymore and the people are more important (dare I say socialism?) and what if that means that youneed to increase taxes to pay for the extra cost?
It is the automatisation that is costing most, I believe. It is also the cause of the wealth dept.
Imagine you have 11 people. That is 1 owner, 2 managers and 8 workers. Small village, so there are 4 couples. The workers make 100, the managers make 200 and the owner makes 400.
They get a machine that can do the job of 2 workers for half the price. So the owner now gets 350. However he fires 2 workers, so that becomes 550. And 2 workers out of a job. The managers will get a bonus if he gets more efficient, so he fires one worker. They gets 25 extra and now make 225 and the owner 600. Workers still 100. and 3 are out of a job. For the workers the average income went from 200 per family to 140 per family. Lets replace 2 more people with a machine and we can also fire one manager.
Now where does all this money go? To the owner. So there are now 3 workers, 1 manager and 1 owner at work. So now there are people who have NO income as a family. They can be re-hired at 'market value' of 50, because 50 is better than nothing and 75 for a manager.
A lot is not so much the use of 'tricks' but the way of filming. Wich Chan you will se the whole fighting scene. There will be a few cuts, but in general you see the whole scene in one go. You know what is going on.
With modern movies, you see a lot of close ups and a lot of cuts. And half of the scene is cut so that you need to imagine what happened. Two guys in a dark alley, close up of the eyes. Fist the moves. A face that turns with blood flying out of it. And this for 10 minutes. That is not a fight scene, that is a epileptic seizure. Oh and do it in the dark, in the rain with loud music.
Compare that with Chan's movies where you see everything. It could be two stick figures and it STILL would be better.
If you only show effects and none of the story telling, you will get none of the story telling and people will not be interested after a while.
Or when they have a great story, but decide to rape it. "I am legend" as proof. They just did it so they could extend the copyright a bit more. At least I hope that is the reason they did it, because if they actually thought it was a good idea to rape the story this way, that would be WAY worse.
I noticed that the majority of these great films are originals and not some sort of "the same again" movie: Planet of the Apes being the exception.
Perhaps we remember great movies because of their originality as well as the technical quality and that technical quality is just an aid to a good story, like a good camera is an aid to a good picture or an expensive kitchen is an aid to a good cook.
Do not think that the Guardian and The BBC did a lot of investigation in this. Most likely they picked it up from Reuters and it fitted in their package for whatever reason.
The US will also have seen this, but they decided on NOT running the story.
We all heard that you should never kill the messenger. What do you do when the messenger IS the bad guy?
Then you are talking to the wrong doctor or talk to him in the wrong way. When I first went to my doctor I clearly told him that I am not wanting to take any pills if there is any way around them. So now he know that and will give me pills when I need them with a limited amount of time.
e.g. I had an enourmous pain in my arm and first I thought it was due to computer usage. He gave me some mild ainrelief so I could sleep, because I had not slpet in a few days.
He also send me to get a scan and the path we would follow would be (depending on the process and the outcome) 1) Kine therapy 2) Medication 3) Operation
What it was were the disks in my back were severely damages over the years and most likely caused because shit happens. Kine therapy helped and it is almost gone and I can keep it under control by doing some excersises for now.
I also have gaut and I used to take medicin for them and last time he asked me if I still took them I said 'no, only when I know I might get an attack, like during the holidays.' and he was very happy with the fact I did not take them any more.
What I hear ioften is that people complain to their doctors to their friends, but not the the doctor. Many people are afraid to talk to a "white coat" and I never was. I do not look up to a doctor (nor look down on a dishwasher). I talk to tem almost as if they are human beings that have a specific skill set I do not have and they seem to appreciate that.
Luckily the way of how Big Pharma can advertise is a lot less free than what it is in the US.
2 x 4K screen + 1 HD + 1x1920*1200 HD is connected to qn HDMI splitter so I have 3 screens zith the same outpu, so I use that for movies and video.
There are 2 keyboards, a mouse and a trackball connected.. One pair on my dersk, the other is for my tv setting.
Desktop is XFCE. Seperated screens and no Xinerama either.
Programs I use are liferea, mostly for the RSS feed of the several hundred Youtube channels I folow. Open the tab and click on a script to go to a website. (code is at http://houghi.org/v/?code and written in gvim) Also XBMC, mutt, gvim, roundcube and all that belongs to it. mpd as music server.
For the making and posting of wallpapers I still use Usenet, so several scripts for that. My knowledge stops with Bash, so no real coding. Geeqee for looking at and sorting of images.
But again, the main thing is screen real estate. My last Windows version was 95 and at that moment dual screen was not that easy and multiple desktops was unpossible. I have 5 on each monitor and each has a specific set of programs open.
The major pain I have is with Firefox. I have seperated monitors, screens and desktops and I must have 4 different instances of Firefox running if I want to have them on each screen.
I have two SSD drives where one is a backup of the other. Main data (like movies, pictures and music) is on a 4 port NAS. A second NAS does the backup for that data.
I am going to start 'Bee-R4u' and deliver beers and spirits to minors. But as I am not a restaurant or any other of the sort of companies that is restricted by age, I should be ok.
Mmm. I am not selling beer, I am renting out closed cans and bottles. However when they open them, they can not be returned anymore. Closed cans can be returned for a small fee.
As the sending is so people can look at how these things are fabricated AND I direct my business at minors, I think I should be getting money for the education I provide from the different states as well.
I do all this to protect the public and keep education as cheap as possible. You are welcome.
Just as an aside, I live near the AB InBev HQ, so I am sure I can at least find 1 company interested and it also means that I do not live in the USofA, so I do not have to follow the laws anyway, right?
I just should not click on submit so others can't steal my idea. Damn, I am smart.
And how many people read that manual? Did they sign of on it? If people can die, it is not a nice thing to say that 'it was in the manual all along'.
Reminds me of one IT manager who wrote an extremely extensive procedure about how his procedures worked in the company expecting that nobody would read it so he later could say that he send it and people signed of on it and now that that is the law.
It is the defense siblings know well and is called "stop hitting yourself". Although technically correct, it is still wrong. And that IT manager? He was extremely pissed that I read all of it and debunked most of the things he tried to push through.
So do you expect "Automatic Pilot" on Airplanes to mean land/take off, deal with adverse weather, etc ?
I would expect it to do all of those things, yes. That is what automatic to me means. However I am sure that will be covered when I take my exam for my flying license. Just like I would a hoover board not to roll or 'limitless internet' to have no limits how you name things is important.
Why do drivers of cars take automatic pilot to mean complete robotic control, "I can not pay attention"?
Because that is what the name implies. Things are called "I can not believe it's not butter" and you can not call it "butter" and then say that is should be clear that it isn't.
A car still requires a humans to intervention. No where have I seen automatic pilot to be advanced to complete automatic control/driving.
A car needs human intervention. We hear all the time about the self driving car that Google and others are doing and they are already on the road, as far as I know. Because that is what they tell me. So apparently either of us is not paying attention. Regardless I assume you have heard about it. To be honest, the first time I read the subject a few days ago here on/. that there was a deadly accident with a Tesla Autopilot my thought was 1) I did not know they already were allowed 2) I wonder what the cause was that the self-driving car failed. It was only after reading that the meaning of that word did not mean what I thought it ment.
Only lawyers and the those in the general populace that are trying to elevate auto pilot as responsible, seem to not have the clue. And for lawyers they have the clue, but they ignore it and exploit the notion that auto pilot means you as the human can rely 100% on the computer.
Well, I am one that did not have a clue either and I am not any of those above. I would also include marketing people to it. To me it is clear that those who are using the name automatic pilot knew extremely well how it would be perceived. This is not just a case of 'new and better' on soap. Now a person has died.
Lets rename the mode. Even though for 50 years Auto pilot meant do the easy, mundane things. Not complete autonomous control.
In all my years, auto pilot, to me means that it can operate automatic and to me that means without any interaction of humans. And if a human intervention is asked, it should know how to deal with that if that does not happen. e.g. I have automated many things and if it needs input, it either stops or goes on with a default.
Again: I am sure that the people who named it were well aware of how it would be perceived by the general public and therefore have named it that way. They should rename it to "I can't believe it isn't an automatic driving system as people interaction is still needed."
And furthermore, you have wording in the US on how to use your car mirrors, yet something so essential does not even have a sort of dead-mans switch where you need to have at least 1 hand on the stearing wheel?
As somebody who is on/. I was fooled by the wording, so I can only imagine that others were as well. I also know that words that had one meaning 50 years ago have a different meaning now or in a different context. I can say that as a hacker.
I also want to be clear that I am just talking about the perception of the word. I have no idea if and/or how the drivers where informed about the functionality of and by itself.
Citizenship confers not only rights, but inherently it confers obligations. You have the right to vote for your representatives
In Belgium voting is not a right, it is an obligation. Well, as voting is secret, voting is not the requirement, but showing up is. If you don't vote or cast a non-valid valid vote does not matter.
Obviously there are some exceptions. If you work, you need a proof of your boss that you work. Voting is done on Sunday, so good luck with that. If you are on a holiday, you can get a proof from your travel agent. If you do not show up, they can fine you.
Now here is the fun part. They can order you to sit at the voting booth. Most of the times they will order young lawyers and teachers, but if there are not enough, they might draft you. And it gets better. If there are not enough people to do the job, they can and will take the first people who come into the door and seem fit to do it, so do not go voting too early.
Now this is just an explanation how it works in other countries, not a request to discuss if voting should be a right or an obligation. We have those here already.
Yes, I work in the service industry and I knwo that some people will just not have a clue about what I think is trivial, just as I have no idea about things that they find trivial.
Extreme examples: person is too "stupid" to do a backup. Perhaps he does not even know what a backup is, let alone an incremential one.
Then on the other side is the person who knows all these things. Knows 27 computer languages and dreams of electronic sheep, yet he is "to stupid" to tak to some person of another gender. He has NO idea how to do that.
So ALL people are helpless at some point and will need the help of others. To look down on them means you are to stupid to have some form of empathy.
The issue is that the person was informed by the company that his data would be safe. It wasn't. He was lied to and that is apparently ok. THAT is the problem. Not that he did not know he should take a backup, but that he was never told he should take a backup.
When you see somebody from Google, just ask what you must do to keep your data safe. Do not argue with his anser. He will moste likely say 'upload it to us'. So where is the problem? Not with the person.
This! I am trying to cancel speed limits as well. In only a few hundred generations we will have kids and elderly that are able just get out of the way of cars. The species would evolve much faster as the weaker ones would be eliminated. Speed limits are just slowing us down.
(And if you don't believe in evolution, God will prevent those who are pure from harm.)
I was thinking the same. The more people will hear this, the less willing they are to pay up. Even with the ones that don't delete the files.
First less people will reply and those who still call will need more convincing that these files are not gone.
OTOH I am sure that there will still be enough people who will be giving the money to make it interesting, I am sure. As long as they make more than they would get by not doing it, there will be a market for it.
Like computers, clothing and almost anything else? What if it is made in the US, but the company is based elsewhere?

He raped a company, not a real person, so there is your difference right there.
And that is why a bi-party system is a bad choice.
The bobies are not so bad. It is the nipples that are not intended for little children.
Do not think that the Guardian and The BBC did a lot of investigation in this. Most likely they picked it up from Reuters and it fitted in their package for whatever reason.

If you get it for free, you are the product.
This is reasonable good news. But it is not great news. A company won over government. However we, the people are left out of it.
And it is sad if we are happy when companies win over government. Because that means NOBODY is on our side.
Are the sheep happy that the wolf is killed by the lion? Sure, but in the end it means nothing to the sheep.
Do understand that neither of these parties represent the public (anymore).
Hey, as long as they can keep their guns, they are free, right?
Freedom? You have the freedom to shut the fuck up!
In Belgium, once a month. Same in Germany and The Netherlands, I think.
In many places just clicking OK is not considered a contract.
