If they are talking about the moral of the US government, I rather have the robots from Terminator.
And they are talking about helping wounded soldiers. Why talk about the (US) marine with the broken leg? What about the injured Al-Quaida fighter?
The question of causing pain for the better wellbeing of the patient is obvious for most people. What if it means killing 1 person to save 10? What if that one person is not an enemy?
What if it realizes that killing 5% of the US population would save the rest of the world? What if that 5% is mostly children? Even if you can answer that as a human being, would you want it enforced by robots?
To me the last drop was when they started removing chanels from analog towards digital. A chanel here and there did not bother me. When they took away the BBC from me I started to realize that there were very few chanels left.
I then thought "Why did I not know so many chanels have already been moved?" and started to analyze what I realy watched and what was background noise.
I watched tv for about 2 hours per week on weeks when all my favorite shows were on AND I would not go out with any friends. So i reality it would be closer to 1 hour of actual watching. (My TV was on for much longer, but as background noise). That did not warrent the 23.70 EUR per month.
As an added bonus instead of being a marketing droid for Hollywoord by saying what show you watched, we talk about more interesting things.
As a European: Yes. I think my privacy is more important then the wellbeing of companies. Google and major seach engines will find a way. The market is too big to ignore and if they don't, I am sure that somebody else will step in and replace them in Europe.
And it is not only what I wished for, it is what I voted for.
So again: if companies can not apply the rules, they should leave. It is wrong if governements would change the rules to please companies. The government isn't there for companies. It is there for the people.
So now I am a criminal or worse, a politician? Because I would like to be forgotten. The way you say it, it sounds like "If you did nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide." We already know that is a bullshit reason for politicians to abuse as well.
Sure, some wil use it for evil. That does not mean it IS evil.
I want to opt out of them gathering MY data. That is not possible now. And this is not about just putting a robot.txt on my website.
And limiting companies in favour of people? Yes please. If there is a choice between people and companies, governements should pick the people each and every time. They are made by the people, for the people.
Hey: "For the people. By the people." could be a great motto for a governement.
So please don't look at what is not possible, look at what is possible and then trow some money towards finding out how to do the rest. The USofA military is basicaly fighting to get cheap oil. Use some of that money in R&D on alternative energy.
Perhaps we are confused, because Jay Leno says he is Italian and Jennifer Aniston is supposedly Greek and we all know how bad the USofA-ians are with geography.
We just want to know if THEY are sure where they come from and by the number of flags they show, they apparently need to be reminded where they are.
This. Most of the time the end-user is not asked. They also do not like change when not asked. So what happens with a change in user interface where people complained? It went from the lower regions to the supervisor. He told his manager. That manager told the IT department. That person told the IT manager. He had a board meeting to OK the budget. A company was hired and was told what to do. He deliverd on time. This is now show to the end user who hates it even more then the faulty interface. This means changes and thus longer times and higher costs, because the end user tells it to his supervisor and he to his manager and so on. Chinese whispers advanced level.
At anther company we solved this by including the end user. We started with 2 who were also included in the process of selecting the company who would get the contract. They were in volved in determin the goal. We asked the end user what they wanted and more importandly: needed. They came up with ideas and solutions we would never had thought of.
Also because they started to know that they were acvtualy listen to, it became THEIR project, so when it was deliverd, no complaints. In the end we might have been a bit higher then some comparable offer, but the end result was overwelming. Imediate acceptance by the end-users so theye were happy. That ment the supervisors were happy as well. Managers saw an increase in productivity so they were happy. Others were positive as well, including the financial department who saw that there was no extra cost to speak of.
The hard part is to convice management to actually listen to the end users AND get them involved not just say that they do. Most will listen and ignore instead of listen and act.
Who cares if it is only 0.2% With a large enough population that is still a lot of money. What is important is if it is enough to make a (nice) living from it for you and your staff. I know shops that do not get 0.2% of the population of a country in their store and still make a good living.
When I talked with a marketing guy, I asked him if he wasn't frustrated that a campaign only resulted in X% reaction and from those only Y% sales. He said he never looked at the people who did not react, he was only interested if the people that DID react did also buy. Because that was who he was targeting.
So 0.2% might sound like not a lot, unless we have some real numbers, there is no idea how good or bad this is. You also need to compare it to the original investment in money. This over many or all games. Because some games will have taken an afternoon to put together and make a shitload while others might have taken years and make a loss.
I have a 56" screen haning at the end of my bed. So the distancance between my eyes and the screen is the length of my bed. Say 2m or 6.5ft.
I have looked at Elephants dream and Big Buck Bunny in different formats. When I played them next to each other, I could notice a differnce between 1080 and the rest. However when running in random mode fullscreen, it was extremely hard to know if I was running 480, 720 or 1080. 480 was noticable when I realy payed attention. 720 and 1080 was more guessing then reality.
Below 480 it was still acceptable for e.g. tv shows.
And yes, I actually made a scrit that ran 30 seconds from random files for 30 seconds from random starting points in the movie. I also did it with blueray movies I had, although less intensive and I saw no major increase in quality.
So that is one thing about the quality and can be very personal. Now about the disc format. I would rather have my data on a NAS. Even if it would be an ISO with all the menu's, a NAS is much more convinient. I have access to other data (e.g. IMdB or Rottentomatoes with something like XBMC), I do not have to look for the disc, put it in the machine and get it out again.
So I would not compare between streaming and disc, but between downloading and disc.
If anytime, they should only do that when I launch it the first time. And otherwise, it should look at the setings my phone is using and ONLy as a way to sufets what you want, not to set it.
Mind you, they are not the only ones who think language and location are related. Among others, Google does this too. It does not look at my browser settings (which are in English) but instead guesses from my IP what language I should prefer. I live in Belgium aand guessing the language by location is wrong a LOT of the times.
There is a reason why my browser setting is in English. That is because I WANT it in English. And just because I visit my parents in Spain or my sister in Germany or friends in the USofA does not mean there is any change in preferece in my language.
If he ever comes in a situation where he needs help, especialy to save their lives, don't do it. Yes, his mom and dad will be save from dying. But to what end? I's just delaying the inevitable.
The issue is not if Microsoft must keep supporting it. The issue is that there is no alternative, except getting a new OS and that costs money. Also there is no alternative and MS does not give you one.
If I were foced to have my care repaired at the company that sold it to me, there would be hell to pay if they would stop servicing it after even 10 years. Tere are cars out there that are around 50+ years.
However I can go anywhere to have it repaired if it is broken and unsafe. So there are several options and one does not exclude the other. Microsoft with all it billions goes on and support it for free for security updates. Microsoft sells extended warrenty at a reasonable price tat covers the cost (and a marginal profit) forthe extended service updates. I bet the most expensive part would be to get in the revenue. Microsoft sells the support to others (plurial) that can then compete in giving support. Microsoft gives away the source, so people can look after it themselves.
They make more money when they do it this way then when you would not do it. The only one loosing money is the customer. Comparing prices is not really possible. They just place the 'free phones' at a much higher price, so they can sell in higher volumes to the telco. This becase people compare prices and think they are smarter then the lawers and marketing teams together. Higher volume means lower overhead so higher profits for them as well.
And by 'they' I mean both producers and telco's.
The thing is: when you can't afford the phone at full price, you can't afford the phone with the plan. Buy a cheaper phone.
there is no way to tell if it did deter others from committing similar crimes.
There is also no evidence that it did not encourage people from committing similar crimes.
When you look that punischment is much harder iin the US when comparing it to other countries AND that there are more people in jail then anywhere in the world, thougher punishment attracts criminal behaviour.
So lowering the punishment would reduce that attraction and tthys lower crime.

You don't, but I do. I do not have a 'default' search engine that I use. The ones I use are google, google images(1), KickAssTorrent, ImDB, Debian Packages, ThePirateBay, Wikipedia and a pron search engine.
So to me a search is not always the same thing I am searchning for. Guessing, I would say Google itself would be 3 or 4 in what I use.
This is not saying what I do is worse or better. It is just explaining why they have an additional search bar, as you did not know.
(1) I have added &sout=1&tbs=isz:lt,islt:4mp to the search result, so I get images that are large enough to be wallpapers and shown in the old fashioned way,

As the police never lies about these kind of things, I am sure that is what happend and not just some trigger happy police officer.

You can also look at it from a positive side and already stat with what IS possible. e.g. 30% of Denmarks electrical power comes from windpower.
Also the USofA has 4,5% of the population, but we are talking energy here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...
So please don't look at what is not possible, look at what is possible and then trow some money towards finding out how to do the rest. The USofA military is basicaly fighting to get cheap oil. Use some of that money in R&D on alternative energy.
Exposing is not the issue. They need to be convicted. They already HAVE been exposed.
The public has outsourced that. They have now companies who do that for them. Much cheaper and more efficient.
(Not sure if I go for funny or scary points)

Bacon is pork. Pork is not eaten by terrorists. Therfore bacon could be given to the Americans to kill them.
This warrants a multi million dollar investigation.

Or just go to the page with the Google Earth image overlays for artificial night sky brightness that you can import into Google Earth and has images for the rest of the world as well.

At least they have the color right. Now just market it under a name that refers to the soil it grows in.
