Well being that I work for the service part of Fujitsu that works on sun products, I couldnt agree with you more, we know that the primepower is a better implementation of suns own hardware running their OS, so much in fact that they are no longer partners with us servicing their equipment, I guess they got their feelings hurt that our SPARC whipped their ass. But we need more sysadmins to USE the Primepower and push their management towards it. Keep up the great work.
I happen to work on Sun Enterprise Class servers. And for al you thinking Sun will port Linux to run on E15k are fooling yourselves. There is no demand for that from their customers. Most E15k's are used for 1 thing. ORACLE. As the same with the E10k. And even if Linux was to be ported to it. No customer would ever trust Linux on a 6TG Oracle DB. Linux cant scale to 105 CPU's. Until that is fixed. Dream on.
In my job as Hardware support on Sun enterprise class systems, one of my most important abilities is being able to handle stress effectively. In certain situations (i.e production machine crash) I have to remember to stay as calm and level-headed as possibly no matter who might be pusing for a resolution such as a CEO or upper management. So i think a good teachable skill is being able to handle that aspect of the job while still performing the main task of repairing a machine. It seems to me at least me persoanlly, the hardest part of my job is handling all of the red-tape associatied with my job, such as conference calls, long meetings, and project managers. It is easy to get frustrated having to deal with all of that especially if you arent acustomed to dealing with it.
I am simply stating what the head Oracle DBA told me, I figure those guys would have a pretty good idea of what that information was worth. You gotta figure those machines do a lot if you gotta have a weight and retna scan just to get into the datacenter
Well in reply, I think its relative to what they are refering to, this machine for example does all of a certain large airlines entire passenger and revenue database, as well as other airlines, so its not just for 1 company.

Since when is ANY hardware FREE? And why do you have such hatred toward Sun?
