. We couldn't even just throw them out because of the state's insane school inventory tracking system
My roommate works for the university here in town, and when an item depreciates to a certain level (i.e. is has been on the books and depreciated at a fixed rate over the course of years) it is removed from the inventory registers.
In the old days of ebay, you didn't need to enter an auction number to leave positive feedback.... It was possible to have an account with a lengthy history of perfect feedback, even though a transaction had never been completed.
Case in point, eBayer Skippy who is the eBay test account... when I joined eBay, Skippy had a feedback of 250+ despite the fact that the account had never sold nor bought anything. Upon recent inspection, I see that Skippy has no feedback rating anymore, but is still an active account, and has an auction called "OPS TEST ITEM, DO NOT BID, DO NOT CANCEL" that will end in 28 years, 318 days, with 43 bids on it.
But since superheroes fight supervillans, and since when there's a fight going on, someone would be alerted to show up and help, isn't this unfairly skewed? After all, how many books in the Marvel Universe are made about average citizens? JIM SMITH: GROCER FOR HIRE, or MAXINE CARROLL: OFFICE ASSISTANT.
DVD rentals are going to shoot through the roof this year because of widespread availability of DVD players. I work in audio/video retail and there were a lot of people buying DVD players this Christmas, especially because major equipment manufacturers (Sony, Pioneer, JVC..) decided to cut prices and sell DVD players for under $200 (and cheaper brands sold for even cheaper... I saw a "Classic" Brand DVD player at a local retail store for $109). What this means is that a ton and a half of people have DVD players, and now want to get movies. But also with the expanded DVD player market, also expect some of the more recent DVDs to come down in price (our buyer had a hell of a time, and we've actually given up on selling DVDs because the list prices and wholesale fluctuated so much, and it sucks trying to sell product you've bought for $17 and compete with Target down the street who bought it a week later for $7) Once prices stablize though I expect the used DVD market will be remarkably similar to the used CD market...
The Family Guy is the funniest. Weren't there problems with voice-actors finding other jobs, however? Someone have a link?
Family guy was put on hiatus because the creator didn't think it was going to be renewed, but it actually did quite well in the ratings... the only problem was, because he thought it wasn't going to be renewed, he had no new episodes ready. Rather than run the same reruns over and over and get people sick of the show, they slated it to be a mid-season replacement, but that got pushed back because of the possible writer's strike. According to Planet Family Guy it'll be back on in the fall.

Yes, I am quite aware that the German word for window is das Fenster (remember to capitalize nouns in German), but fenestration is the layout of windows and doors of a building, and from Merriam Webster:
One entry found for defenestration.
Main Entry: defenestration
Pronunciation: (")dE-"fe-n&-'strA-sh&n
Function: noun
Etymology: de- + Latin fenestra window

: a throwing of a person or thing out of a window

While I was abroad in Germany last spring, the Finnish band HIM came out with a CD that was copy protected. The CD was also clearly labeled that it was not compatible with CD Rom drives.
According to the article, this test was limited to the German market, but perhaps the band didn't have the popularity for someone to work out a uncopyright scheme, because I haven't seen one relesased.
Is this like the radio in HGTTG where you can wave your hand in the air to tune in a station... but you have to keep your hand in that position to keep the station, otherwise when you move the signal will change again...
Scientology is now being allowed in Germany.. and Denmark... I saw a poster for a Scientology info session in Giessen or Frankfurt when I was there in May/June.... and I was approached by a Scientology Barker outside a "church" in Kopenhagen... when I asked me to come inside I said I had already read "Dianetics" (and I really had read part of it) and thought it was a load of crap and walked on... insistent fscker though.
Is there any news about when ICANN will start allowing websites with charachters from other language sets. I don't want to go out and register hötmäïl.com, but I would like to register something with a special character.
Just a curious notion. If the games are stored in the Dreamcast on an internal hard drive, how long will it take someone to crack the technology and feed DreamCast roms directly from their computer to the DreamCast over a set-up cable connection? Without the need to burn anything to disk and worry about the physical failings of the media... once the info is on the machine, it's there to use forever, unless there is some sort of subscription service for games that has to refresh itself with a server every couple of days).
When my parents purchased their DirecTV system, there was something in the literature that they would receive a new card every month to keep their subscription current, but to this day they have never received another card beyond the original. Always thought that was curious, I guess now I know why.

Actually, porn may just be the catalyst that brings HDTV into its full glory... after all, that's what porn did for the VCR.
Now I just want a TV that will suckle...
