Oh that's great, thanks for the links. This whole conversation has made me miss playing Oregon Trail.

Oh pooh, i wanted to bring up Oregon Trail.

Now -there- was a cool history game.

I hated the math games, personally.

Well, there's a thought. Though some would say the punishment wouldn't really fit the crime. Unless a worm/virus/whanot caused someone's death because it screwed up the computer that ran air traffic control. Or, you know, something a bit less unlikely and somewhat more likely.

Kind of scary the process by which people can take anything and reduce it to a number somehow. That's probably why I hated statistics class.

  6. Eh on Geeks and Poker? · · Score: 1

I've never really learned to play poker, but I think I'd like to sometime. Though I'm also rather certain that I have no poker face to speak of, so I would have to relegate myself to video poker and online poker games.

Actually, last I heard (and admittedly, it's been a while since I heard this), counting cards is not illegal. However, casinos can and will kick you out/blacklist you if you're caught doing it.

Same reason most exercise/aerobic videos are targeted at women. Because women will buy them. Men generally wouldn't. Men, if they're going to exercise, are much more likely to simply go outside and exercise or go to the gym.

I actually do see a need for this sort gaming. My niece, who loves video games, is 194lbs and turned 13 this month!

Uhm, they already have gaming to help with that. It's called, "going outside and riding your bicycle, or climbing a tree, or running around like a chicken with your head cut off". I know a lot of people around here are the kind of people who spend a lot of time indoors (yes, me included), but there's a great big world out there in which kids should spend time. Seems like a video game for exercise is just going to encourage people to sit around inside more and complain about how they need to go to the gym.

Well, there's something like 250 million people living in the US, right? Now assuming that on average there's three people to a household, that gives you 83.3 million or so houses. Then you have to keep in mind the sheer number of businesses, hospitals, warehouses, government buildings, houses that don't have people living in them, garages, etc etc. So yes, I would definitely say the number would be rather huge. Of course, all of that is just my guesstimate and is in no way actually based on completely accurate data. ;)

Aren't the courts crowded enough as it is? Why make more work for the courts/government? I mean, honestly, there're enough useless/pointless civil cases out there right now, we don't exactly need -more-. And it just seems that if the Justice Dept really wanted to go after music piracy, they ought to do it through criminal courts and leave the civil courts to, well, the RIAA to sue people. How would the Justice Dept sue for damages anyway? Did I miss something in that article? And since when does the legislature ever move that quickly on something?

Seems like it was a bit stupid on the guy playing the game's part when you see what happened to him, but, I'm sure he had no reason to think he would be misinterpreted when he said that. Kinda scary how a relatively innocent comment can be taken so seriously by people. Makes me worry one day that I'll say something about "Augh, so-and-so drives me nuts, I could just kill him/her!" and be hauled up by the police for making a threat on their life. When, you know, I wasn't. Not really. Seems it all could've been avoided. Though am I the only one who finds it kind of odd that the guy's friend disconnected his phone? I mean, would he really have had to worry about getting tons of calls about it?
