Uh...PNGs are tiny. Slightly larger than Jpegs for photos but remember that they are lossless AND have more features like alpha-transparancy. Its absolutely brilliant for cartoon and semi-realistic stuff. JPEG is dead.
Mac OS X and Linux UIs dont need a Cray to work. Windows ones do.
E.g. My computer which is a rather old Pentium 4 2.4ghz (not hyperthreaded) runs XGL brilliantly. Same computer wont run Vista properly and the Vista graphics arent exactly amazing.
Often you dont willingly agree to it. The licence is in the shrink wrap and the shrink wrap says that if you break it then your agreeing to the licence. You have to agree to the licence just to read it.
Of course the money cycles around. I'd prefer my money going to a better cycle however. I could buy a cd for $25 or buy hosting, a couple of domains, etc...
The Firefox UI is created basically out of thin air. Its all run by XUL (XML format UI) and Javascript. The only way to make it cross-platform is to have your own widget set.
Small question: Why dont you use Safari? I know I'd use it if I had a Mac. Keep in mind that I use Seamonkey and dont really like Firefox much.
You assume that the Microsoft equivelants are as good or better than the current solutions and that the current solutions dont improve beyond what MS is doing.

Your opinions are fine. Just dont complain about taxes being high when you think that tax free cigarettes are ok.
