    When I ditched ASP/Access for PHP/MySQL many years ago it was just the right tool for the job.
    I wouldnt exactly say PostgreSQL was completely ready back then.

    This was six or seven years ago and there has been nothing which has tempted me over to PostgreSQL since.

    I've never found the need to use anything other than MySQL.

    I dont need any fancy features but I do need speed.
    For that MySQL fits the bill perfectly and Postgre not quite so.

    There isnt any real reason that I know of for me to switch although if there was one I probably would.

    (Enviro-Nazis should realize that their cars use lead acid)

    And btw Australia has the same system where every suburb or so has a telephone exchange.
    I dont think they have batteries though. The small telephone buildings have the lead acid batteries.
    They send the power to the exchanges.

    If they use Lithium Ion then they need to be replaced every 2 - 3 years.
    Lead acid can go for decades in good conditions (which exchanges are).

    Keep in mind that we are talking about cases where a modification does the following:
    a) Doesn't affect the plant at all.
    b) Passes testing.
    c) Is highly detrimental to a decent percentage of the population.

    While small changes can have big effects, it is highly unlikely that anything would meet the above conditions.

    GM foods is different to drugs because you know for a fact that the base plant/animal is completely safe and you have a good idea what the effects of the changed gene are.

    Unlike drugs where you have less of a understanding about what it affects.

    A analogy is taking a known safe drug and modifying it slightly to be more effective.
    You'd be quite confident that it would also be safe because its based on a known safe drug but you'd run tests just to be sure.

    Guess how you find out if your allergic to peanuts? Yep. By eating them.
    You still see peanuts in the supermarket dont you?

    Anyway, it would have to be a pretty small percentage for it to be missed in testing.
    Too small for it to be a problem.

    Well considering the amount of attention this topic has gotten you can be pretty damn confident that they arent handing out 'safe' labels to everyone.

    They've been doing tests for years and have found no ill effects.
    And why would they? Its identical to the parent cow.

    Here in Australia I believe they use lead acid.

    Makes far more sense. Lithium batteries lose charge over time regardless of usage.

    While the possibility always exists, the chances it will have a bad impact on us is minimal.
    Every new manipulation has to be tested thoughly for months before its allowed to be eaten as well.

    How many things could you change that would have a really bad impact on us which wouldnt be found in testing?
    Its a rather small list I believe.

    No I'm pretty sure 11 bit computers are exceedingly rare and there wont be any problems because of them. :)
    Hell 9 bit is more popular.

    Most people are just complainers. They complain about stuff, but they refuse to find ways to solve their problems, and worse, they actively ignore any suggestions which would solve their problems.

    Actually your motherboard would have been spared due to it being on a different rail.
    Motherboards do get 12v.

    I've had three explode in my care. All of them were rather old.
    I never got any conditions you had though. They all went with one big bang and then they were completely dead.

    The funny thing is I opened one of them up and there was nothing visibly wrong with it. :?
    No dust, the pcb didnt have any scorch marks and the capacitors were all intact.
    With that particular one blew with a massive flash of white light through the vents.

    Watch that episode. Its very conclusive even if it wasnt completely scientific.

    Yeah the paint didnt help things but it didnt do a *great* deal.
    The mixture was all wrong for proper thermite.

    I wish but the movie studios arent that smart.
    In all the making of stuff I cant see too many microphones which means that even 5.1 is only emulated.
    Excluding the CGI stuff of course.

    I use Linux with Seamonkey and..... uuhhh nothing else.
    No infections either. :)

    It looks like your doing everything except the simplest solution.

    Oh and yes I use UPNP.

    Actually throughput is always 1024. It uses bits instead of bytes to cut corners.

    Its storage which uses 1000 to boost their numbers.

    Yeah I know that but if its legal then that means there would be companies made to supply it.
    Those companies will want to advertise just like alcohol and tobacco companies.

    It doesnt sound so utopian anymore does it?
    It goes from quote 'a victim-less crime' to a major problem.

    AFAIK people who want it legalized want it to be legal to grow it in their back yard.
    They dont fully understand what legalizing it means.

    Your logic fits well with the bozos at Microsoft as well.
    Remember that its their 'feature' which is causing this problem, not the user and the malware authors are only taking advantage of it.

    Its nothing to do with having a physical medium. Thats simply just how they have been taught.

    Software repositories are completely different from what Windows has.
    Its a side effect of everything being free.

    Most people dont understand it just because its different.
    Once they have used it then it dawns on them how logical it is.
