I did violate someone's right, but I have PAID my debt. I did jail time, I did community serivce, and paid my county $15,000 in fines.
Losing my rights was my fault in two ways, one because I hurt someone, two becasue I neglected to register earlier.
However I am a damn good person who made a mistake. I don't get the urge to rob or rape people often. It's generalizations like that that screw masses. I'm sure that most criminals could care less about voting but I DO. I'm not like most criminals. My summer of celebrating before I went to YALE got out of hand. It was a mistake. We all make them.
It was a felony conviction (aggragvated assault,) that was sorta drug realted. I was an addict and I commited a crime, did my time and have been clean since then. I had just turned 18 was really just a dumb kid.
Had I registered before I got in trouble I'd still be able to vote...but I have to wait 7 years...sucks.
I can't vote. Because of a mistake I made 5 years ago,(ok so it was a BIG one) my right has been suspended for 7 years. So in two years I can try to register if they haven't made legislation to make it a permanent restriction. So when you're out there making your choices, please think of lil ole me and vote for someone who's against taking away my right to vote...
Your username is not correct as per your tag line. I'm guessing that you got it from Ferris Bueller...and the name is Abe FROman, not Ferlman...just thaought I'd let you know. Vlad sucks
I can't belive that they said that in a brochure. I work in tech support and one of our largest customers is the NSA/DOD, I can't tell you how horribly old most of their stuff is....Sparc 1000's and even older crap!
Too funny that the goverment has such wonderful marketing....
But couldn't get out the words....I think the plot condensation left too much out and that they should have done a Titanic length movie instead of cutting everything out. I read the book in 6th grade and I'm sure I didn't understand everything the book talked about but it is still my #2 fave book.. Thanks spitting it out for me...
Although I really can't say why....Maybe because I really liked the book and I can visualize what they were trying to do. Or I can see what a great movie it could have been. I dunno
As with any novel of this magnitutude making a movie out of it is a great challenge. It needs to be at least a mini series or something. For as much as I was looking forward to the movie, I will admit, I was a little disappointed with the outcome, but I liked it nonetheless.
I agree whole heartedly. Your words are truly what people see here
I read one of the replies to your post who happened to be female, and had been on the receiving end of some crap behind it and I'm shocked....
I'm female, which I don't hide EVER, and I'm only half white (another fact that I haven't felt the need to keep secret) and I have NEVER EVER been treated as second class. And if comes the day that I do, so be it. I'm sure I'd get a kick out of what the cretin has to say.
Your right about that dream though, and it is sad but I think the only place we'll ever even come close to realizing that dream is right here in good ol cyberspace....
I can't belive that we are back on this topic already. We usually get a least a one day respite in between these trite ramblings.
I think that this is one of the worst yet. It goes from people feeling threatened to women being sexually intimidated....which is why I am choosing to commnet.
One again you grossly over generalize the "geek subculture". This "angry streak" that you talk about is akin to saying that all geeks can't get dates. It isn't true. Just like saying all black men go to jail. Complete and utter crap. Every "subculture" as it is referred to is going to have it's good and bad. THAT IS LIFE.
As a woman reader of this site I'm curious to know whether or not you even talked to any women about this or if you just decided that we should be offended by it and therefore we are? I personally find it amusing. And if someone finds it offensive then read at a higher threshold. Bottom line. I think that one point people tend to forget is that most geeks have a good sense of humor and alot of the flammage and troll posts are funny! Admittedly some aren't but you've got to take the good with the bad. I think this series of articles is lost on this group. Most don't seem to mind flames and if they do, they take the necessary steps to avoid it.....
You seem to have missed the entire article. Katz wrote this article in RESPONSE to the e mail forementioned!!!! There was no flammage in regards to this article. Well maybe, but we'll find out about that in Part 2 of this boring diatribe.
I find it hysterical that all these people who are sounding off about flaming are doing some hard-core flaming themselves!!! Just because you don't use curse words or offensive language, doesn't mean that someone won't interpret what you say as being mean...(I found your comments about not being taken serioulsy as a child very offensive and quite mean.) Yes, Talisman was very, ummm, curt, but that's HIS way of expressing himself.
What this whole comical discussion is based around is FREEDOM of expression, a right that need not be toyed with in ANY way shape or form. Who gives a fsck if Katz didn't care for the way Talisman chose to express himself. The bottom line is it is his right to say what he wants.
Just wanted to give you a hats off for being a man/woman. You could have just stayed anonymous, and had fun with all the comments... While I am not a flamer myself, I do support FREEDOM of speech, no matter what! I too dislike Katz, and found this quite amusing. Keep speaking your mind. It makes me laugh...
I know I'm a big loser but....I want all 177 episodes of ST:TNG! Unfortunaley columbia house is the only place I've seen it offered. There are offering one tape a month that has 2 episodes a piece, priced at just $19.95 per! Which sucks cuz I want them all right now!
So in 6 years I'll own them all.........
PLEASE someone tell me they know somewhere else to get it.....
If not oh well. It is still well worth the 6 years and $2K!!!!!!!
I work for a Systems Integrator-nice word for RESELLER! We are a Sun reseller first and formeost, but we are very strong in the NetApp arena. Since I am a geek trapped in the hell of being a sales(wo)man, please forgive me if I sound salesy at all.... Anyway, NetApp's are a great solution for multiprotocol storage. One of the drawbacks is that it is Network attached and therefore only as fast as your network...which has been a problem for many of our customers. Another HUGE problem is backup. There is only one product that can do it well-a product called BudTool. BudTool is a little guy that some geeks in my company thought up and brought to market, then along came NetApp who asked us to figure out a way to b/u their filers. Out of that venture NDMP was born. BudTool is the only product that makes use of NDMP correctly. That divison of my company was recently sold to Legato systems, who plans to EOL that product. NetApp is now scrambling to find another solution, since they've been recommeding BudTool from Jump Street.... Pricing is also an issue. And you were right in saying that they start at aroung $17K, but that is WITHOUT storage. A good sized storage solution, let's say 1 TB is going to run you upwards of $100K. Yikes. There is also a good resource for people who are thinking of deploying a NetApp solution, which is the toasters users group. You can send an e mail to toasters@mathworks.com and ask to subsrcibe to the group. You'll get alot of good feed back on what works, and what doesn't. You'll also get to see the downside to using it (and BudTool). I think there is info about the group at http://teaparty.mathworks.com but i haven't been able to get there in a few.....Check it out. It's definitely worth the trip. And if you need any quotes I'd love to help you out!!! Just Joking
No matter how many new domains they come up with I'm never going to get to use my last name.....It sucks too, cuz there are only about 1500 people who share this name on the entire planet!!! I share my last name (Delaware)with a state, a river, two universities, several cities and counties and tons of companies in my area (I live very close to the state, river and one of the counties)!!! They really need to force people to stay within the domain they should be in....ie.com for COMMERCIAL only etc....
Very well said indeed....Anyway, as a girl, I find all the sexist attitudes towards technically inclined women very frustrating! But I won't rant and rave about that one since it's been said so many times. But I would like to let my fellows know that they need to take a look at their attitudes about girl geeks. Everone knows that geeks tend to be very chauvanistic, and I don't think many girl geeks speak out about what it does to us ! Not only do we have society's hang ups about geeks to deal with-but our own kind gives us shit. Alot of girl geeks feel they need to sacrifice their womanhood and femininity to be accecpted as a serious member of geek society. Which is a motherload of shit!!! Most women don't talk about it but it's the truth Take a GOOD look arond at the girl geeks you do know, and you'll see what I mean. I am one of 4 women in one of my classes and 2 of them are total mud-ducks. In the beginning of the class-the teachers took a bet on which of the students would fail-and of course I was in the list of do-nothigs and the two ugly chicks were said to do well. All because I have long red nails and I'm quite good looking(not to be conceited) and I REFUSE to give up any of my feminine traits to be taken seriously! Needless to say those ugly chicks routinely fall behind me, and one of the teachers actually apologized to me. All this girl geek, boy geek stuff is ridiculous. We are ALL geeks, and should stick together! Death to ZDNet for publishing that article.
I work in sales right now (until I'm done with school and get REAL job) but Transmeta was one of my accounts for a while...and even though I suck at my job, I can get most people to chat about what they do-but NEVER there....They would give me only information about their operating enviroment, but just enough to get a solution in place....
I too had the chance to play the DC at Toys R US (I was there on official business of course), and I had an extremely unpleasant expirence. After beating up four 16 years olds to play, I'd have to say that I am totally un impressed, and it wasn't worth my fight. I think the graphics are about the same as they are on the better N64 games (namely Zelda) and after playing a few intense minutes of Sonic-the F@$king thing HUNG on me. Just froze totally froze. Needed to be restarted... I asked the store clerk about it and he told me that all of the consoles that they had received seemed to do that.....Pretty freaking lame if you ask me. Wonder if that's a problem or bad shipment....Game load time was damn slow too...
The games DO make the system-but the game line up seems pretty weak too. They are all the old games with bigger characters and brighter colors, but it is all the same regurgitated crap again.....
I am so glad that somone in the world has a bit of sense! I can't beleive that people actually have the balls to try and dictate and/or complain about the content of geeks in space. It's THEIR show. Pathetic small barins. I personally would rather hear about Hemos pissing on a certian Redmond resident, but there's plenty of shows to come. I'll just wait patiently till I hear what I'm interested in and if i never do OH F@#*ing well. It's not my show.....Keep up the good wok guys...

The upcoming installment of the Friday the 13th, Jason X is being shot all digital and it is due out April 2001. Way before Ep. 2
