No, this is something well in their ability to enforce. They choose not to.
The shit jobs the illegals are taking are the shit jobs that seniors use to supplement their retirement, and that teens use to gain early spending power.
Hmm...I wonder who would be a better fit in our society: English-speaking college-educated Indian software developer or Spanish-speaking Mexican street sweeper. Tough choice.:-P
Personally I look out for condescension disguised as intellectualism, which usually culminates in a sneer look, a nose pointed to the sky, and none of the original arguments having been answered.
People who CAN do the job usually aren't running for office. Arnold isn't so precious that we have to erase a constitutional protection to get his stanking ass into the White House. More talent will come, we just need the will to find it.
You don't let just any joe schmoe into your house to raid your fridge, hold you at gunpoint, or tell you what to do, do you? Then why would you let one into your country to figuratively do the same?
You forgot the implied Rule #4: A government must be chosen by its citizens. Goofy laws get passed because we either want them or we allow them. Either way, it reflects on the majority of *us*.
Separation between church of state? That is nothing more than the federal constitution saying Congress shall neither endorse nor forbid any religion. If you want a full legal separation, then your job (figuratively speaking) is to make sure that the state constitutions have a similar clause. Otherwise it's open season, and legally at that.
That being said, I do not think it to be in any school's best interest to teach creationism over evolution, especially since the concepts of evolution hold swing today in every aspect of our physical and social realms. Not least of which includes modern medicine and capitalism itself.
That depends on whether I started watching PBS before I knew about words and numbers. According to my own stay-at-home mummy, it was mostly soaps, MTV, and HBO. Not exactly quality television, but somehow I began reading at 2 1/2.
I watched PBS religiously as a young child and I can tell you I did not learn a Goddamned thing from it. Sure, Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, Square One, etc. were entertaining, but looking back, in no way justified the public expense. Nova is interesting but doesn't give you anything the Discovery channel wouldn't. And the British comedy... entertaining, but is that really necessary?
The morality of killing people from one weak nation to scare off another, stronger nation...
In a world consumed by fear, pragmatism wins over morality every time.
My claim that Japan, on the day before the Hiroshima strike, posed no material threat to any Ally is absolutely true. Had Japan been left alone at that point, they would've eventually been easily conquered by absolutely anyone who wanted the territory.
I wish you would have said that in the first place. Otherwise you'd imply that the Pacific would come to a peaceful standstill, and I just couldn't accept that with a straight face.
Possibly, but it wouldn't have involved any USA troops. Stalin had offered to supply 100% of the invasion's ground forces.
That would have been about as smart as Eisenhower having allowed the Soviets to reach Berlin first. Just what the world needs: Communist Japan. And it would have come to that.
If the Allies had just pulled back and ignored Japan, the only threat they'd present would be wooden sailing ships.
I don't even know what to say to that. Have you ever in your life studied military history? Or human behavior?
A possible comparison is: "It's a sad day for humanity when it's considered 'partisan' to help out the poor." (as in entitlements)
Not voting is still voting. A bit ambiguous, but equally valid. It could mean contentment with a way of life, it could mean discontent with the candidates, or it could mean that the non-voter is entirely ignorant about the process or the issues. Why push a square peg through a round hole?
a) Who do you think MTV wants to see as president?
b) Who do you think is underrepresented at the polls?
While legitimate, don't believe for a minute that campaigns like these are without partisan motive.
The Koreas may well have been united if not for China attacking American soldiers. And North Korea may well have been subdued by now if not for fear of China pulling the same bullshit twice.
As long as only we have the weapons or only we have the countermeasures, we're in good shape. But sitting around like sheep and waiting for other countries to figure it out first is going to leave us in a world of hurt.
Atomic weapon theory wasn't an insider secret; scientists around the world had been contemplating the concept for a nice little while. Many inventions are incremental; subsequent revisions of technology are usually in relation to the previous, and can usually be predicted and anticipated by anyone with any knowledge of the technology. We aren't doing ourselves a favor by letting others get to it first, because they inevitably will.
You're forgetting a big principle here. To guarantee a country's submission, you need to occupy it with ground troops, because the citizens and the government exist on land; not in the water, not in the sky, and not in outer space. The Japanese weren't likely to submit, and a land campaign would have been brutal.
Furthermore, as Soviet domination on Eastern Europe was strengthening, we needed something to subtly convey to them that further movement westward (as was in their longtime plans anyway) was a Bad Idea.
But yes, I have no idea why we didn't just outright say, "We have an atomic weapon," aside of it possibly offering the Japanese time to pull a Saddam Hussein and offer last-minute, dragging negotiations that have little meaning.

No, the answer is really simple. Hispanic votes.

Because they're not Americans. Our home, our rules.
Then the solution would be to change corporate law, to "protect us from ourselves".
And why is that, thou "Great Sensitive Multiculturalist"?
The way the more pragmatic among us see it, a country that needs to be bombed is usually a country that needs to be bombed. Kumbaya can wait.

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!
How else can I properly diss PBS, without nitpicking it?

Very very interesting; I hadn't thought of that.

Anyone can give an easy answer like that. But the stress comes with the wisdom that North Korea isn't exactly selfish about its WMD.
I for one appreciate the humor.
You are wrong. One only needs to witness evil or be victimized by evil to recognize evil.
