It would not be the first time that government/scientists have gone ahead with these types of projects/experiments without proper safeguards, all in the name of science/economy. The first one to discover the dark matter, or the first one to claim this technology to produce better weapons for their country, wins...no?

I hate to say it, but we have been so brainwashed by all these scifi movies of the exact same thing, that now we see this and totally do not react, who is to say that by doing this they are not going to send us all into oblivion and rip this planet apart by creating that rift.....yet because we think back to the countless movies we have seen about this hero that comes along and saves the day, we feel better and think...."it will all work out in the end...."

NO,NO,NO! If we all stepped up and as one MASSIVE body of people.....told our governments to stop playing god , and maybe focus more on creating a more stable economy....else we would all revolt.....they would realize maybe....that.....the scifi movies need to be laced with even more subliminal content to be more effective???

  8. Make them encapsulated on Rethinking the Nature of Files · · Score: 1

The problem is that a filesystem has its own way of dealing with types of files.
I saw keep everything as binary, and allow for the tool opening that file (binary) to have a centralized view of dealing with that data.
I have a binary file which could be word, or could be html or could be pdf, but the file knows itself what it is.....this would just require that ALL file systems keep the files unfragmented, which is not possible at this point unless using linux distros.... the fat and ntfs that are 80% or more of the market share, fragment the files so that the OS knows the file info and where it resides.

Why break a file at all, if you do you have no way of knowing what is what....somewhere along the way the file could have recognizable pointer markers to let know the start and end of a file...within the file....so as to allow for a quick data loss recovery as well.....i think etx3 does this, if i remember correctly, but it has been so long i haven't touched linux, i feel almost like a virgin....fragile and vulnerable..... jk.

A file is a file, keep it together , even when you work with it. then rebuilding file structure is easier, as well as being able to keep info inside the file itself becomes doable as well.

Seriously, the Chinese have caught on now to what the oil industry has done all this time, and are now lining themselves up to be in the same game with their raw materials. My thoughts are simple, we have millions of hdd sitting around doing nothing, instead of throwing them out, keep them for later, and see how much backup builds in their inventory....the prices will come way down. As well, with all the nano tech coming out, we use less and less materials to make these drives, So why say we are losing so much when we have actually made an improvement on the materials used.

In the end, the big machine dictates supply and demand. If there is no more demand, then there will be lower prices because of overstock.
This does not work in oil, and probably will not work here either, because for this to work, everyone has to be in on it, and to get a whole global economy to stop buying gas or hdd for a few weeks to force the industry to have overstock is too complicated.

This will not help the student at all, it will help the country have less debt that probably will take longer to get paid back, however, also you will have less people going to college as we know the economy is crappy right now and jobs are few in between....so how will they pay through college if there are no jobs to be had, they just wont go....and stay in small time jobs, keeping the average individual in the US stupid because he could not get college. Now, they ARE able to get college and pay back once they have a degree, which is a minimum requirement for getting a decent job. So I see this as another way to control the population by keeping them stupid and not giving enough chances for middle and lower class to get better jobs in their futures.
