  1. Seconded on What's Your Favorite Underappreciated Movie? · · Score: 1

This movie is damn funny and is one of my favorites of all time.

  2. heh heh on 1.0GHz P3 In A CD-ROM Drive Bay · · Score: 1

  3. Cakewalk Sonar on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

I use Cakewalk Sonar for midi sequencing and audio recording. I have not found any Linux software that even comes close to its features. I tried to install MidiMountain, which is just a midi sequencer, but I could not get it to compile. Until there is an equivalent Linux app, with support for soundfonts and third-party DXi and VST plugins, I am forced to stick with Windows.

  4. Call me a cheapskate... on Star Wars Producer Says Box Office is Doomed · · Score: 1

but going out to the movies is getting to be too damned expensive. I refuse to pay $8 or more to see a show in the evening. I haven't gone to an evening show in years. Matinee prices are also creeping up, and if they go up much more I'll have to start cutting down the frequency at which I go to movies.

And the candy and snack prices are outrageous! I never buy food from a movie theatre. If snacks were reasonably priced, I might buy something, but at 300% of the cost of what you would pay elsewhere, I pass.

Renting videotapes at $2 or $3 give me much more entertainment value for my dollar. Or else I go to my local library, where they rent movies on videotape for free!

  5. Science Friday on NPR on Science for the Car Ride? · · Score: 1

NPR does a show on fridays where they talk about science and interview scientists. Kind of lightweight, but it's the only science show I've ever heard on the radio. Check your local affiliate.

Or you could tape record your class lectures and listen to them again.

  6. Do what interests you on What is the Value of a Second Major? · · Score: 1

I think a second degree is somewhat beneficial for employability. It broadens your qualifications for the jobs you can be hired for. You never know when an opportunity might arise that you can take advantage of because you have the two degrees. I also think it helps you stand out from those who have "just" a CS degree. In the worst case, it can't hurt you. You can always omit one degree or the other from your resume and just leave the one that best suits the particular job you are applying for.

That being said, it's important to assess where your interests lie. You called non-math classes "fun", and I inferred by that that you consider math classes to be not fun. If this is true, then I would say don't bother. If your heart isn't in math and you're not really interested in it, then you're not going to retain what you learned in those classes and they will just be a painful experience. Take some fun classes and enjoy your last year of college. If, however, math stimulates and inspires you, then by all means, go for that second degree. A few more semesters is a small price to pay for the opportunity to explore some new and interesting subjects.

So to summarize, don't make your decision based on what an employer or grad school might think. Make it based on what you enjoy. You only live once.

  7. Congratulations on Drake on Drake: ET Life A Certainty · · Score: 1

And anyway, nowhere in the Bible does it mention ET life. If there really were "aliens" then Jesus would have had to come and die for THEIR sins too. No alien-Jesus, no aliens.

You've just discovered another flaw in the bible: it does not take a position with respect to alien life one way or the other. You'd think a book that so many claim to contain "the truth" would make a statement on this issue. But the fact that it doesn't demonstrates that the bible is just a collection of myths and fables written and codified by superstitious old men who couldn't conceive that the earth was round, much less the tremendous amount of knowledge we have about the solar system and the universe today.

  9. no, sextupling is correct on International Internet Infrastructure Triples · · Score: 2, Informative

In other words, you count the 100% that x originally was, so sextupling (~579%) is correct.

  10. I would love to do this on Programmers for Scientific Research? · · Score: 1

I have BS degrees both in Chemical Engineering and CS. I worked as an engineer for several years, fell into programming and liked it so much I got another degree in CS. I am working mostly on business apps at the present time, but I find it a little boring. I would love to work in a scientific context and solve scientific problems. I have experience in FORTRAN, Perl, and C++.
