Censorship isn't censorship when it's "self governing"? What? And how is this self-governing? It's being enforced by a private company, not by the people.
"Of course the rule can't be wrong, simply because it isn't quite as strict as a the rules in an arbitrarily chosen survival camp!" A truly masterful point. Arg, how did you come up with this?
Oh, and there's nothing wrong with keeping society prim, proper, polite and personable. So if you want to drop the "f word" in a post, then feel free, but don't cry foul when I mod you down for it, and don't force those who administer you to suffer your personal tastes.
The countries domain is a service provided for the country; privatized or not, it's supposed to be run in the interests of the people. If enough people of Ireland feel that their countries service isn't what they want then they have every right to demand that the government improve that service, again, privatized or not. They shouldn't have to use another countries domain name when their own government is supposed to be providing their citizens with a service that the majority of them like.
Would you argue the same about other privatized services? Water? Transport? "If you don't like it, use someone else?" In a lot of countries there is no viable competitor, and in this case, if Irish people want an Irish domain (surprise!) then they have no other service to go to.
Maybe the majority of them want the restrictions, and that's their choice. But you don't get to shut down the argument over whether or not this is a good choice by simply spouting some inanity about the market deciding blah blah blah. If the citizens want their own countries domain rules to change, they should.
So, my head is about 5000 degrees celsius right now, and my feet are about -4900 degrees celsius. On average I should be doing pretty well right?
What you're (conveniently) missing is that GDP is an average - you only need a few very, very rich people at the top (eg: oil sheiks or what have you) and you can counterbalance the large quantities of very poor people at the bottom.
Sure, people like Bin Laden have money, but he's not the one flying himself into buildings, is he? It's the poor zealots at the bottom doing that. Of course, being poor isn't an excuse for acts of terrorism - but when you live in a little desert shithole you might not have much to live for (and the Bin Ladens can find those that don't easily enough). If you don't appreciate being destitute, the image of an afterlife where everything is provided will seem more, well, heavenly. More to the point you're probably going to be pretty receptive to someone pointing out how rich "those westerners" are compared to you. And of course these same people (the ones that live in the same country as you, ie: the ones that have your ear most of the time) are never ever going to just "point out" how well off they are.
As for poverty being the root of fundamentalism, I see churches in poor communities all the damn time, and not anywhere near so much as near where I live. Of course, that's anecdotal, so you might not believe me.
Hrm. Excuse my newbishness, but would this thing fit on a DVD / set of DVD's easily? Would there be any problems collating it off the servers? It would kinda be cool to have the ability to browse this offline, and I could give copies to friends so that they don't waste their money on Encarta. It could also allow them to make a bit of a profit to get funds up.:-D
c'mon... THIS is ugly?!?!?! I can see where the other poster is coming from about jdoom not being close to its roots, the models and textures can seem too "bright" for the dark and gothic feel of doom, but I don't think it looks ugly to say the least.:-S
I've played most of the other source ports, this is still my favorite though. I love doom legacies bots, wish jdoom had them.:-( Haven't tried zdoom yet though... what features does it have that jdoom doesn't? (It's home page is a bit spartan and I feel the need to play through tnt again.:-D)
This is such an awesome source port of doom, but the documentation for the Linux version leaves a *lot* to be desired. I still have no idea where to place my updated textures, music files and models to get them into my game under Linux.:-(
By default it looks like regular doom, but if you get the texture pack (big zip file at the bottom of the page,) model pack (direct link to a 9 meg.exe, user is jfiles and password blank) and the updated music it looks and sounds nearly as good as quake 3.:-D (no, seriously:-D ) Make sure to turn on all the rocket trail and mouse look stuff, most of it is disabled by default.:-D
Hrm... opengl doom at 1280 * 960... hrm...:-D
You can still get the demo.wads from id's ftp I think...
Maybe I'm missing something, but don't a lot of countries have libel / slander / defamation laws?

Heh, bit late but I wrote a journal at last.fm on why last.fm is better than Pandora: journal here

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess... and the old sprites do have a nostalgic retro feel.
