The original trademark suit and settlement had Apple Comp agreeing not to enter the music recording industry
I guess it will be the wording of this concept in the settlement that decides the current case. A quick look at the iTunes site reveals that they're not really using the "Apple Computer" trademark there except for links back to the parent corp and its (computer related) products.
Chief: "Once he's on your property, anything you do to him is nice and legal."
Homer: "Oh, Flanders . .."
Chief: "It, uh, doesn't work if you invite him."
Not voting does not mean one doesn't care. It means one didn't vote. That is still a valid choice. I personally feel a blank or "spoiled" ballot is a stronger statement than an uncast ballot, but that's just my view. One does not surrender the right to complain just because he/she didn't vote. Lots of people say "Vote or shut up", but that doesn't make it true.
. . . on a much smaller scale. He's got a 1 acre lake that provides cooling in the summer and heat in the winter for his house (mansion, really). The lake temperature is changed by several degrees (F) but it's relatively small compared to the house. The system is expected to pay for itself in heat savings in less than 10 yrs + provides (almost) free A/C.
Kansas isn't exactly known for its progressive thinking
I'm a lifelong Kansan, and I'm really disheartened we've gotten this kind of rep from the likes of Phill Kline, Fred Phelps, Jerry Johnston and the Kansas State Board of Education. 80-100 years ago we were probably the most progressive state in the country (perhaps tied with Wisc.). Now we're infested by right-wing nut-jobs. I'm done ranting.

celphones are Class II bluetooth devices, the lowest power output level type
Actually, there'e a Class III, with lower power yet. Nominal range is about 1m.
The way around this at Costco is to go in the Out door and out the In door. The In door guy is programmed only to check the cards of people coming in and the Out door guy is configured to check receipts of people going out. You trigger an unhandled exception if you reverse the doors.
Yes, Mr. Insurance agent, I've got my VIN right here. It's A-1-D-1-squiggle-smiley face-squiggle-1-2-W-musical notes-e with two dots over it-female symbol-B-5-open paren-heart.
EPA numbers are 363,000 City/524,000 Highway. I do mostly city driving. Oh yeah: It's a T-Bird supercoupe. I think the record is 484,000 one week while I was commuting a long way to work by highway at very early and way-too-late hours. Each week I might see variations of as much as 10%, mostly due to the temperature of the gas: in the U.S. gasoline is sold by gross volume so you get more bang for your buck when the gasoline is cooler. The attitude of the car while fueling plays a role too. I can't always completely fill the tank on a non-level apron.
Yes.
Fluorescent lighting doesn't have to be the worst thing in the world. Good lamps and good ballasts make a lot of difference.
For lamps, I prefer either "natural" or "daylight" phosphors. Natural is best if color recognition is important, and it makes most things look pleasant. Daylight phosphors simulate outdoor skylight, so they appear very blue compared to warm white or cool white. Daylight phosphors are particularly nice in spaces far from windows.
Electronic ballasts are very important. They don't operate at 60Hz, so they don't beat against monitor refresh rates. You can also get electronic T-8 ballasts that save about 20% on your electric bill (and make 20% less heat). Also, with electronic ballasts you can remove lamps to customize illumination in an area -- they don't have to be installed in fixtures in pairs.
And please, give 'em a freakin' thermostat to argue about.

I suspect that the guts are re-sold a few times rather than being disposed of.
True, even small amounts add up . . . quarter million here, quarter million there, pretty soon you're talking real money.

They'll let them in, otherwise they'll hafta answer to the Coca Cola Corporation!
