    Where is the benefit for him in doing that?

    In order to stay wealthy, enjoy trappings, and stay in power, dictators need to placate people below them, and the people below them, and so forth. To do that takes money, and without an economy you don't have money - So the benefit is it helps give NK an economy, which helps keep the elite rich.

    The problem I see for the NK government is that expectations would rise faster than the economic benefit of openness, with the result that the government would try ways to selectively open the economy but in the process blow holes in their hold on power. It would be nice to think that this would lead to a cascading collapse but I personally think the government will keep the lid firmly on their country.

    But isn't that their monitizing plan? To you mega you will need to run their ad blocker which replaces normal advertisments with ads from mega.

    Eric Schmidt visits a farm and tells the farmer than his cows would be far better off with internet access. The farmer looks at him like he is fucking stupid. Where is the benefit for him in doing that?

    Yeah its interesting but it should be possible to calculate the amount of biomass required to do that. There is a hell of a lot of methane in this cycle on Titan which implies a lot of life. My guess is that the stuff would have to blanket the planet and it would need a fast metabolism. For me that means it must be in a subsurface ocean. The surface is too cold for a high energy metabolism.

    The source of Titan's methane remains a mystery because methane in the atmosphere is broken down over relatively short time scales by sunlight

    Hang on a minute: wasn't free methane being used as an indicator of life on Mars? So where does this methane come from?

    The other idea I saw is that to use their free service you have to install their ad-blocker which replaces normal advertisments on web pages with their advertisments. Its shonky as hell but I can see it working for them.

    Not to mention taking deliberate steps to avoid prosecution by hosting exclusively outside the US

    So what does that make me? I have no connection to the US and I took deliberate steps to host all my stuff at my place.

    Yeah I looked at Croquet but just getting it to build seemed like a lot of work. In the end minecraft did just about everything I needed.

    Philips would axe 9 projects out of 10, even if a particular product was about to ship.

    I also know a few bad organisations which can't seem to follow through on projects. They seem to get dumped for no reason at all.

    As we didnt have enough badly written, insecure and slow web applications which were not designed by somebody whose description fits to the above.....

    Our professional software engineers are going a good enough job of creating those.
