You must be joking. Count the number of pro-linux and anti-Microsoft stories posted on slashdot, create a ratio of those two against the sum of misc stories that appear here.

My point was that this has been horribly blown out of proportion, there have been no less then a dozen stories posted on the matter of this trial. Why not simply wait until the end of the trial instead of speculating and drooling every other day over some new tidbit? How long will this go on? Years? Until the appeal process is over?

Why not post some Pro-microsoft stories on Slashdot instead? How about mentioning the money Bill Gates donates to minority kids for scholarships? Or how about the financial results for Microsoft for the last year? Maybe some more information on the X-box? Or how well Windows 2000 is selling?

Of course those stories don't belong here, Slashdot _is_ a site for Linux, and Linux these days is associated with Microsoft bashing.

P.S. Good luck on those moderation points, nice to know that anyone who mildly likes Microsoft's products has no opinion in your eyes. For a group supposedly dedicated to free speech, you sure are fascist in your approach to such liberties. Free the code, shut up Microsoft supporters eh?

I doubt there's much profitability in creating Office for Linux, simply look at the market they will have to entice:

    3. "M$ is evil and we are 31337" crowd who'll refuse to use anything mildly associated with Microsoft
    4. "Let's warez" crowd who'll simply pirate the software.

How many commercial software products make a sizable profit on the Linux platform? It makes no buisiness sense at all.

As for your other point, I'm sorry, but if you think companies aren't supporting Linux because of a veiled axe weilded by Microsoft behind the scenes, you've got to be kidding me. If supporting Linux was a profitable venture then many companies would embark on that path, alas, it's not, and with the "Free" attitude so prevailent among penguinistas, it probably never will be.

Realize also that any breakup of Microsoft will have very little impact on Linux. If a hardware vendor doesn't give a rat's ass about Linux, it certainly won't change it's mind like magic after any ruling.

  12. Re:Enough with the bullshit editorials on Wyse Ditches Linux For WinCE · · Score: 2

Well let's look at this. First off, are you comparing Windows with Linux? And if so, what is your comparison based on? The biased opinion of Slashdot readers, statistics from sites like Netcraft, or something else?

Let's look at the webserver issue first. Apache does in fact have a 2:1 lead over IIS. You won't see myself, or anyone else arguing that for the moment, Apache holds the medals. However recognize that IIS is the second most popular webserver, and that's no small accomplishment.

Next look at the platform breakdowns. How many sites are served with Linux as opposed to NT? Remember Netcraft's statistics show webserver breakdown, not operating system. For all you know, Linux could make up a very small portion of the web servers using Apache. IIS on the other hand is used Exclusively by NT/2000. I'd wager that the number of sites served by NT is at _least_ equal the number of sites served by Linux.

File server: with Windows 9x/NT clients NT windows hands down, this has been proven time and time again. When someone conducts a test with both 9x, NT, MacOS, Linux and whatnot clients where Linux with Samba holds up, let me know. (Last time I checked, SGI machines with Samba were the highest performing file servers anyway)

Application server: Terminal Services provides remote application services for NT. X provides the same for Linux. Personally I'd rather run MS Office remotely, then Star Office..then again that's up to you. Generally Windows has a much wider range of quality commercial applications.

If you truly believe that Linux is the superior operating system in every concern, you're living in a dream world. If Linux advocates wish to continue their petty little war against Microsoft then they had better realize that arrogance and self inflated egos will only carry them so far.

As for stockholders...I don't quite follow. How do Microsoft's actions hurt stockholders? A stockholder is concerned with one thing, and one thing only - $. Microsoft has been raking in profits for years, which in turn raise share prices, which in turn make stockholders happy.

Sooner or later, Redhat will become a monopoly in Linux, I hope you'll then stand up and advocate that they be crushed by the DOJ.

Here's an interesting note for you, Linux is "supposedly" superior to Microsoft's offerings in every way, and is free, and yet the DOJ finds that Microsoft has no competition? Somehow those two things don't go together for me...

As for my tagline, it's very simple. Here at Slashdot, readers are herded into one particular viewpoint. You may not speak well of Microsoft, you may not support DVD Encryption, you may not speak ill of reverse engineering, you may not suggest that Windows NT/2000 is a better choice for a lot of people then Linux. This is simply not allowed, Slashdot readers must maintain a singular opinion on major issues, otherwise all these Linux podium posts that outnumber real news 2:1 wouldn't have much effect.

Slashdot is not a "News for nerds" site, it's a podium for Linux advocates to bash Microsoft and closed source, while patting Linux and open source on the back.

An open minded individual uses all tools presented before him/her to solve a problem. A closed minded individual is trained to one particular way, and refuses to attempt anything else. Which category do the majority of Slashdot readers fall under?

When actual debates on which tools work, and which don't begin to take place, then maybe you'll be right. Until then it's just a reiteration of the old "Linux r00lz M$ dr00lz" chant.
