We recently acquired a Mac OS X server at my school. Having used Linux for several years, I figured that this OS X server would be a walk in the park. Well, to put it short, I was wrong. Many of the standard utilities that I enjoy from working in Linux were not present. Configuration of many of the system services (sendmail, ftp, nearly everything...) is made much more complicated than it should be. Documentation is shoddy, there is no tool such as linuxconf to aid in setting the server up. My general opinion of OS X is far behind Linux in the desktop wars.
I have been using mandrake for the past year or so, and have been very impressed with it. It has the stability and easy to use rpm system found in redhat, but has more software bundled with it, and the tools actually work! I have modest desktop requirements on my machines. I basically use my desktop for the Gimp, star office, mp3 jukebox, and basic web surfing. It does more than I need it to, comes with compilers for languages I have never even heard of, more editors than you can shake a stick at, and a pentium optimised kernel. It is nice that you don't have to compile a custom kernel just to get the pentium optimizations.

for non mission critical passwords i use "the" for mission critical, i use the serial number off the back of a floppy disk. of course I keep the disk and label it something to remind me that it is a password, but other than that it is the most secure way I can think of to generate new passwords.

Is it just me, or does microsquish seem to be exhibiting mafia like tactics in their marketing schemes? BTW, has this guy even USED linux, or installed a major distro? My experiance with NT is that to get it installed with all the service packs, and a few applications such as Dev studio 6, and IE 4.x or better takes around 3+ hours at a minimum. My experience with red hat 6.0 was a 20~30 minute install, another 15 minutes and i was on the net. MS is way off on that one.

the smell of computers burning as Win2Kaboom causes all the processors to go into nuclear meltdown...
sorry about that, my new years resolution, should I live to see the new year, is to never make another resolution.
This individual seems to take for granted that "linux" is only the kernel.
