In defiance of some members of his own party Kerry also led an investigation into an international bank called BCCI which was associated with international drug dealers and terrorists. It was something of a scandal at the time.
This was in the late 1980's and early 1990s...about ten years before anyone else gave a damn about terrorism.
You may not believe this but freedom does not come free of responsibility to others. Other people fought for it, other people died so you could have it and you have a responsibility to exercise your rights by speaking out in public forums like this one and voting in our coming elections.
However you do not have the right to do whatever you want in the privacy of your own home if it infringes on the rights of others.
Child pornography absolutely infringes on the rights of children. By paying for it you are paying for the exploitation and abuse of children, you are paying for someone to break the law. Since we are a democratic republic these laws against child abuse exist because the people in this country believe that they should.
The decision by the court against the Pennsylvania law was the right one but that does not make child pornography right.
"The way to protect children is to prevent children from being exploited in the first place, censorship of childporn sites won't make a difference because the site already exists."
This is simply untrue, child pornography should be removed whenever possible not simply because it represents exploitation of children in the past tense but because it encourages exploitation of children in the future. I hate say this because I do not think of open discussions of sexuality in this way but material that sexualizes prepubescent children, feeding the fantasies of those already inclined to view them in that way is dangerous.
"In 1863 the Negro was told that he was free as a result of the Emancipation Proclamation. But he was not given any land to make that freedom meaningful" In 1976, I was told I was free as a result of reaching 18 years of age. All I was given was instructions that I needed to go out and join the job market... even though I'm white, I was given no property, and no special birthright
If the American economy in 1976 was structured the same way it was in 1863 you would have had a real problem establishing yourself as an independent adult without land. A far larger percentage of the population was engaged in the business of agriculture and the acquisition of land was significant for all ethnicities. The push west was not just for fun.
Look up the history of sharecropping and organized labor to get some context for your comparisons.
"Your broad statement declaring disadvantages is unsupported except by your own rhetoric."
There have been studies done (reported in the NY Times, hard pressed for dates at the moment) that indicate applicants with differing names (one sounding more "black" than another) get RADICALLY different rates of call backs with identical resumes.
Also studies indicate that white applicants with criminal histories are still favored over black applicants with identical criminal histories or histories that indicate less violent crimes.
Everyone on this board has been talking about racial discrimination as if it is a historical phenomenon or something that exists only in people's minds. Neither is the case.
The tendency to switch from one language to another based on the topic being discussed is called code switching.
It happens especially frequently in conversations between bi or multi lingual speakers when they come up against a concept that is more accurately or easily expressed in one language over another.
Architects and engineers are looking into ways to make building more efficient. (Sometimes the clients request it, sometimes they sell it to them based on calculations of cost over the life of the building)
William McDonough: he is a leader in the field and has been influencing other high profile architects to include exactly those kinds of features into new construction. Along with passive heating and cooling and natural lighting.
Some recent projects that do not fit the stereotype of sustainable or green building include 4 Times Square (skyscaper) by Fox and Fowle and the David L Lawrence Convention Center by Rafael Vinoly.
Well lets see I walked down the street without a male escort, read the newspaper, voted early in a primary and went to work today.
All of which makes me a feminist but you can gauge for yourself whether any of that infringes on your "Bullshit" gene patent.
It certainly merits discussion in this forum budget and tax issues are science issues.
Foundations that fund education, research (not to mention charites and visual, performing arts) are established and funded in America by very wealthy people looking to avoid taxes.
If you take away the taxes, which has precisely what Bush has done especially with the proposed abolition of the estate tax, you take away to impetus behind alot of funding.

Aren't you forgetting the about the protective "Boulder Bubble"? It keeps reality from intruding should keep a giant rock out just as well.
A small moon would just hang about in the air as residents heedlessly sip their soy chai lattes and walk their chocolate labs.
